Slight angle and metal

Written on Aug 04, 2021

Went with this after handling a similarly equipped Mossberg 500 with the Mesa Tactical adapter and a Maverick 88 with the Ergo adapter.

The Mesa Tactical adapter is basically in-line, which works well for recoil management but makes it hard to use a traditional bead. If you use a railed optic, then no problems there. Additionally, the configuration means any grips with a beavertail are No Bueno.
The Ergo has a more manageable angle for the buffer tube, but I found the plastic composition and the forward grip angle not to my preference.
The TacStar is closer to a Goldilocks between the two, just enough tube angle to let me use a bead and puts the grip at a more neutral angle with plenty of space for a beavertail-equipped grip. At full extension, it puts the LOP very close to the original, traditional stock.

Now one issue that all of these adapters have, is that they block the rearmost portion of the trigger group. This is for comfort as otherwise there would be a 1/2" gap, but means you need to remove the adapter to drop the trigger.
