Nice ergos but big miss in fit and finish

Written on Mar 30, 2025

As many do, I watched a few glowing reviews and decided to buy the echelon grip with wood panels. Yes it can be tough getting cog in but I can't knock it for a good tight fit. Ergos are fantastic. Feels great in the hand. BUT my right wood grip looks to be warped creating a sharp edge as it's warped out of the machined pocket it sits in. Second and this is a deal killer, the mag release cut out is milled to far oversize. With mag installed the mag release literally flops around in opening. Up down and side to side it is loose. So much so that in a drop leg holster it clicks and ticks with every step you take. Next, they don't really mention but without the, not included, mag funnel a 17 or 20 Rd mag has a large gap. This grip is short and made for the 15 Rd mags of the compact. Adding mag funnels makes it fit 17 and 20 a bit better. While of top of mags, this module also has a very very loose mag channel. The mag as well flops around clanking around when you walk. This is a metal to metal fitting. To put in to perspective I can wrap 3 layers of painters blue tape around the mag and it's still not tight...... I had high hopes for this module as it looks quite nice and is comfortable in hand. With these issues and several more not mentioned I fully recommend looking at other options.

Ultra bright dot!

Written on Jan 16, 2025

I'll keep this review short. I have several scope from swampfox and keep adding to the list as I replace older optics. This tomahawk is excellent to say the least. For the average user I'd say it may be the best one yet. I got bit buy the want to upgrade and got an arrowhead as well as the warhorse. Both are great in thier own right. But the tomohawk will be great for most users as you a ridiculous bright center dot. So bright that you can lower your brightness by as much as 3 levels and save a ton of battery life. Although it's not posted anywhere, at the highest setting this optic was tested to run 5k to 10k hours. The average user won't run this over maybe the 4 or 5 level when in typical sun. Although these are made to turn on when needed it should easily run nonstop on the level 4 brightness all the time with battery changed yearly. At this level it can handle most situations. Did I mention how nuclear bright the dot is in the top few settings. Brightest I've ever seen in my life, by a long shot and I've had pretty much every type of optic over the past 40 years.

Be aware BFO is not daylight lit

Written on Jan 08, 2025

This purchase was my 8th swampfox optic. I've always been amazed at the quality for price you get with swampfox especially with a rock solid warranty. That being said I was excited to finally see a fiber optic reticle hit the lvpo market. Marketing really pushed this innovation as did paid reviewers that got thier hands on this optic early. When I received the optic was was somewhat disappointed. One would assume (and marketing pushed the idea) that it was daylight powered with using battery at lowlight and darker. This would have been a great innovation comparing to a fixed power acog. But this is not the case. You still have standard battery powered reticle as all other optics in this class use. One would figure it would save some battery life though but with some Google research no where is this battery life listed. Comparing to my warhorse I can see that I can keep the optic at 1 or 2 brightness levels lower for adequate all around visibility. The single lit dot is quite bright though, possibly the brightest on the market. Sadly there is no telling how long battery will last if this is used for HD where your wanting to keep reticle lit. Following public discussions on forums many have assumed it could be left in the lowest settings relying on the fiber optic for daylight brightness and the lower lit setting for night time transition when no light is available. It's still a great optic but not what marketing would have you believe. You'll still need to manually adjust for

excellent sight picture and superb quality

Written on Feb 28, 2023

One of the best sights I've mounted on my 1911's. My old eyes have made it nearly impossible to use iron sights anymore. Took a chance on these when they went on sale. This is the first sight I've seen that I can use with my poor sight. I'll be ordering more soon.

Just as a note to the other 1 star review. These were very easy to install. If someone is not familiar with how to mount a 1911 sight use a gunsmith. These sight installed with a sight pusher are perfect fit. Always remember most slides require pushing sights from one particular side. If your sights don't slide in about 1 to 2 mm then try pushing from the opposite side. To many people like the other review just use a punch and start hammering away. Use a pusher on the proper side of the slide or use a gunsmith. These sights were perfectly machined
