Nice finishing touch on a custom Glock 48

Written on Apr 01, 2025

The mounting system is clever, just be sure to tighten barely past finger tight otherwise the inner wall of the Glock frame will bend and obstruct the magazine. Mag wells generally seem a bit pricey to me but this is a nicely machined piece that compliments other Tyrant CNC upgrade parts very well. Beware the cheap knock off on eBay, the mounting screw strips and the color is wrong if you are trying to match the matt look of other Tyrant parts.

Love SIG ammo

Written on Jan 29, 2025

I really like SIG Elite range of ammo. I use it in 380 Auto, 9MM and 40 S&W. Gun always seems to need less cleaning after using this brand. Very consistent performance, never had a dud. Its worth grabbing a few boxes, particularly when it comes on sale.

Good quality gas block

I used this on Springfield SAINT clone build. Worked perfectly.

Big improvement on the traditional pressed metal cover.

Written on Jan 18, 2024

This is a good looking cover aesthetically. I like that it won't rust or discover like the pressed metal covers tend to. Installation and future removal is a breeze.

To remove your original dust cover without removing the handrail:
1. Remove the tiny circlip on the barrel end of the hinge pin by pushing downwards with small pliers (or something similar) with the opening of the circlip facing up. I put a small piece of tape under the circlip to prevent a scratch if I slipped.
2. Trace the path of the hinge pin back towards the stock over the assist channel and place a piece of tape along the path being sure to include the area underneath the ejection port. I use electrical tape as its resilient, painters tape doesn't protect well enough.
3. Pull the hinge pin out towards the rear, pulling upwards as you go to clear the forward assist channel.

Good... and bad

I bought this to improve the trigger action on a Springfield XD-40 Service Model. The install was easy enough and the new trigger action is certainly very short with little take up. Be aware that instructions and labelling of components is non-existent so YouTube is your installation friend! The components with a daub of blue (striker and trigger spring) are the competition components and give the lightest pull (and possibly an underpowered striker spring).

I experienced two problems, firstly the trigger safety pre-installed in the trigger doesn't reset when the trigger resets, you need to manually push the safety lever back into its reset position. This doesn't prevent use of the gun but it means the trigger safety is not preventing the trigger from being depressed as intended. The second problem is serious and at time of writing remains unresolved. The very short trigger action is not sufficient to lower the seer block enough to release the striker, so the gun won't fire. I tried everything I can think of short of filing down the striker release block which I'm not willing to do for a drop in trigger kit. Its currently with a gunsmith to try and resolve (probably doubling the cost of this trigger!).

I will add that my XD-40 Service Model is one of the first generations of this model from the 2000's. My suspicion is the this trigger kit was designed to work with later generations only and not for the original generation. So, be cautious if you have an older gener

Top Notch Quality

The Vortex scope rings and mounts are expensive compared to brands like Monstrum. I don't personally have the skills to assess if the Vortex products are superior in function to lower cost options but can say that I trust Vortex products completely having never been let down by any Vortex product. This particular mount is perfectly machined, the anodizing is of a very high quality, and the supplied hardware does not strip like cheaper hardware tends to.

Very well made but doesn't fit BCM upper

Written on Dec 04, 2023

This is an attractive ejection port cover made from thick, well machined billet aluminum with a classy matt finish that in my opinion offers an aesthetic upgrade over the thin pressed metal stock covers that corrode so easily.

However it did not come close to fitting on my Bravo Company Manufacturing AR-15/M4 Upper Receiver (BCM4-UR-M4). The left side from the mid point up around the curve will not clear the forward assist channel on the upper receiver. It is not just a tiny bit of filing needed, I estimate that about 1/32" of material removal and reshaping is needed on the left side of the cover.

I do not know if the incompatibility is the cover itself, the BCM upper or my lack knowledge about the parts I selected. I'm going give the Strike Industries polymer cover a try. The polymer can easily be reshaped a little if needed without having to refinish the filed area.

Buy for the look not the quality.

Written on Nov 25, 2023

This is no reflection on Optics Planet, they had it in stock at a good price, and shipped quickly. The material used by Hera Arms to make these stocks looks and feels like cheap plastic, and scratches like cheap plastic. If you're used to the quality of a Magpul or Bravo stock these will likely disappoint you. I suggest buying this for the unique look it gives your build and not for the quality. Buy the matching foregrip to complete the overall look. The non-CA compliant versions are hard to find at time of writing this. The metal plate blocking the thumb hole can easily be removed to give you the non-CA version.
