I hunt in wooded areas in the northeast of the United States. Not many opportunities for long distance shots. Most of the shots I take are 150 yards and in, with the occasional 300 yard shot, so I do not need 15+ magnification. I like second focal plane scopes because I shoot crosshairs. My deer hunting rifle has a Leupold VX6-HD 2-12 Gen 2, which I adore. In short, it’s my dream scope. I recently got a predator gun and I wanted good glass without spending 2 grand. For the money, the Vortex Viper HD 2-10 is amazing. The glass quality and clarity at this price point is fantastic. The magnification ring is smooth and the illuminated reticle is handy when you need it. It’s similar to my firedot on my Leupold. Vortex also has a no questions asked lifetime warranty, so if anything goes wrong, send it back. I can buy 4 Vipers for the price of my Leupold. That’s crazy value, because the glass clarity is not that far off. For my needs, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase and I’d buy it again if I get another gun.

Let me start by saying I am not a precision shooter. I’m self defense oriented. Hitting a steel plate at 1000 yards is cool, but that’s not my thing. That being said, who is going to use this iron sight to shoot 1000 yards?

Anyway to the review. I love this combat rifle rear flip up sight by Midwest Industries. It is well made and low profile. It does not switch between a small and large aperture, instead it uses a single medium aperture. There is no futzing around, it just works. If you use it with a red dot, holographic, reflex, etc; the sight picture is so clean. I actually switched from a lower 1/3 co-witness to an absolute co-witness with my Holosun HS510C because it was so clean and fast. I can’t recommend this thing enough.
