Holoson bullet-proof Sub-Compact Red Dot and a perfect fit on the Ruger Max-9

Written on Jun 06, 2021

This sight is build like a tank and was a perfect fit on my Ruger Max-9. Ruger uses permanent red thread lock on the slide plate which can only be removed if heated. You don't want to put heat directly on the slide, so I took the Ruger supplied hex wrench and held it by the long end with a small vice grip and while the wrench was inserted in the screw I heated the middle of the wrench with a small micro torch. Within 20 seconds the heat was transferred to the screw and I immediately had another hex driver ready to remove the screw. Both screws came out with almost zero resistance using this method. If you don't heat the screws using this method you can strip the head and then it's off to a gunsmith. Some folks say this won't fit the Ruger Max-9 because it is a X2. That is not true! This is a perfect fit. The X2 varient has the same foot-print as the original but the controls are laid out horizontal on the X2 which is much better than the original vertical arrangement. Mine falls asleep after 10 minutes and wakes up the moment I move it. By holding the + button for 3 seconds you can lock the buttons to maintain the same level. MOST IMPORTANT is many sub-compact red dots automatically dim in low light and don't even come on in total darkness where the Holoson will. That is a big reason I bought it so the dot is visible when I hit my strobe light. Not even getting a laser for the Ruger since the Holosun won't give your position away until your ready to engage. Weaver 4x28 Classic Scout Scope top quality optics with lifetime warranty

Written on Nov 28, 2015

This is my 2nd Weaver 4x28 Scout scope. In my opinion the construction and optics are equal to Leupold and Burris fixed power scopes I own. Unlike Leupold, the lifetime warranty for Weaver is only good to the original owner but if you plan on keeping it you're all set. This scope is made in Japan which is known for outstanding optics. These scopes hold up to HOT 350 grain 45-70 hand-loads in the Marlin 1895 and .308 on a Ruger Gunsite Scout. The late Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper considered 4x the perfect magnification for a scout scope. Optics Planet, with a 10% or better coupon, always has the best prices on the internet and I've never found a better deal at retail. I have a friend with an FFL who sells me at cost but considering OP makes about $18 profit on this scope over Dealer cost, less what they pay for shipping it to your front door, why bother a friend.

Very compact fero rod that works.

Written on Feb 20, 2015

UST got it right with this mini fero-mag rod fire starter. Compact and takes up little space yet throws allot of hot spark. I like the fact the striker and rod are contained in the unit do no exposed sharp edges. China made but well made. Bought 2 and glad I did since the price was the lowest on the internet and even lower than WM. Slid one into my Becker BK7 sheath pouch and still have room for a compass, allen wrench and sharpener.

Doan is the best Mag starter hands down

Written on Feb 20, 2015

It took a month to get this due to backorder but worth the wait. Doan makes these for the military. Don't waste money on lower quality. Optics Planet matched the best price I found on the internet. Doan is US made.

Workmanship is terrible. Made in China. It's on the way back to Optics Planet for a refund.

First let me say the customer service at Optics Planet is fantastic. This product on the other hand was complete junk. This is nothing more than a mirror with the silver backing removed in the center with a piece of fine screen sandwiched between the mirror and a black plastic backing. There was glue all over the back and scratches and nicks in the glass. The mirror and backing were out of alignment which wouldn't be a problem if it was a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie. The screen has a hair or fiber in the glue. There was a gap between the front and back which means they only glued the two halves together in the center. I was so disgusted made my own. I would be surprised if Optics Planet will continue to do business with this vendor. The other items were top shelf and high quality.
