Having viewed thermal images with my son's FLIR Thermosite scope, I opted for the Scout III 320 as a cheaper alternative, but still a major investment. Very disappointed with the resolution, regardless of focus attempts. Beyond 50-75 yds, images were more of a blob, than identifiable animals. Plus it would often reset/shutdown often after 30 seconds of use.
Returned the unit to FLIR, and received a 2nd unit. Better, but still not usable beyond ~100yds...and now it has malfunctioned, showing edge to edge "hot", regardless of background.
And the viewing options, though numerous in number, offer little in benefit, with no explanation in a manual or online.
The Thermosite scopes make these $2k+ units look like a toy....

Does the job

Not easy to spend as much as thermal units cost, but the FLIR Scout 320 unit works quite well. Very compact, easy to use (but a better explanation of some features would have been nice). Not quite the image resolution I had hoped for at distant ranges.
