I have used some plastic rod guides and they seem to absorb the chemicals and get dirty. This cleans up well, is well built, strong and is a perfect fit for my ARs. It feels like it will last forever. The O ring protects surface of upper and barrel from damage with insertion. Using a rod guide aligns your cleaning rod and bronze brush with the barrel and protects barrel's crown, muzzle, and throat.

Good set to replace all those old used brushes you may have. Twisted brass center to prevent damage to barrel in most sizes. Some times I use different size brushes wrapped with patch to clean barrels or other areas. Comes in brush case with labeled sizes. Keeps them ordered and clean then laying loose in bag at range.
