Great scope

Written on Feb 09, 2017

Vortex has been my favorite goto for optics. Unbeatable warranty and service. This scope is the best I have owned. Great glass. Great reticle. I opted for this over the Gen II because I needed the higher elevation adjustment range. Mounted on a 60 MOA rail, I got over 30 mils up and still managed a 100 yard zero. Contacted Vortex prior to my purchase, summarized my needs and received a knowledgable recommendation. This was for a 2000 yard gun. For shorter distances where you need less adjustment I would opt for their PST FFP to save money or their Gen II if cost is not a factor.

Good value

This scope has good glass and solid turrets. It is a second focal plane but the free Nikon Spoton app helps you use the BDC at different magnifications. Not really for extreme long range but I have used it on an AR10 out to 600 yards with no issues.

Few choices if you need a reticle

Written on Nov 29, 2016

Overall, a good product. The glass is clear. The focus is stiff and there is no separate fine focus. It may loosen up with use but the downside is it is difficult to maintain aim even on a tripod while turning the focus knurl. The main reason I bought this was for the reticle which works well. If I didn't need the reticle I would have probably gotten a Vortex HD 60 power which has great glass as well and is half the price. Alas, Vortex discontinued reticles on everything but their monoculars.

Great rings

Written on Oct 17, 2016

They seemed pricey but when I saw them I was pleased. Clearly beefy and well made. I mounted them on a picatinny, checked with alignment bars and they were right on. I am currently using the scope on a 6.5mm Creedmoor but would trust these rings for any caliber recoil.
