Perfect rings for my setup

Written on Feb 23, 2022

I’ve been a long-standing believer in Leupold optics and mounts/rings. The Backcountry rings were exactly what was looking for on my custom 7mm Rem Mag to hold my Leupold VX-3HD riflescope. Light and strong, with a slim profile, these solid rings are well worth the price.

Great crossbow sight!

Written on Dec 22, 2015

What's not to like? It's an EOTech!

First, remember the limitations of this crossbow sight. It's not a scope. If you are not pleased with no magnification, and then want to spring for an EOTech magnifier, it may not have been the best choice from the start. Choose a scope if you desire magnification. Certainly that helps, especially with noticing branches between you and your target. I, however, consider this an acceptable risk. I like no magnification! It's a crossbow after all! Vertical bowhunters manage just fine without magnification, as I once did myself, and still do with this sight.

The range estimating scale and the cross-hairs together in the field of view do not clutter up your view. The scale is surprisingly useful. The hold-over dots are accurate. My crossbow shoots about 335 FPS, so it turns out that the 2nd dot comes in at 33 yards, the 3rd at 44 yards, and the 4th at 55 yards. I took my first shot at 55 yards, and I was just a half-inch right of center of the target. At 55 yards, I'll take that any day! Accuracy is no issue.

An added bonus is the little sticker EOTech provides that you can write your ranges down on for each hold-over dot. I stuck mine to the inside (facing the shooter) of the right limb, and I can see it without moving at all while aiming. A great way to remember what is what.

Only thing you have to be consciously aware of during a hunt is the brightness. Every 30 mins to an hour, just look through the sight to make sure it's not too bright
