I got this for my 10/22 mainly to make it look cooler, and it does that. Not sure how well it works at hiding flashes, since I don't typically shoot in the dark.
However one thing to note is that, at least on my gun, the threads are arranged such that when this is tightened down all the way, the top of it is rotated about 90 degrees off from where it should be. I had to order a .012 inch steel spacer from Amazon to get it to align right, but now it looks great.
