Great addition

Written on Mar 18, 2021

I really like how this solves the light on shotgun problem without having to worry about wires, clamps, or having to change grips to turn on/off the light. A little pricey for the overall weapon system, but not terrible for a light anyways. Great light, easy buttons to manipulate. Easy to install. Would recommend purchasing from a reputable buyer, a model I got from another site would not work for my system, despite markings saying it would. The product from OpticsPlanet was clearly different, and clearly what was needed for my system. Dont be like my Dad and try to save $20, buy from people who know what they're doing and will fix your order if there's a problem. Fit could be a little tighter, but that's on Streamlight.

Acceptable Milled Buttstock

Written on Mar 18, 2021

No issues with this buttstock. When installing, it didnt look like it was going to fit, despite being advertised for a milled receiver. But, synching it down did the trick with no issues. The only problem with this stock, and likely any milled AK stock is it isnt OEM to the rifle. The original screw plates dont attach to this stock, so the result looks bad as there are metal screw plates sticking out above and below where the stock attaches. They dont impede the usability, or the stock's folding function, but look like they will easily snag on clothing and gear if the rifle is being jostled around. You could saw them off, grind it down smooth, and blue the screw plates. But that is a very, very permanent solution to this problem. I'm not convinced I want to do this as it is a one way trip you cant come back from. You cant wrap them for safekeeping as that will impede the ability to fold the stock. Is folding the stock really that important? Probably not, but if you are eliminating this feature, why buy this stock? Food for thought. The real problem with the AK in general is it's difficulty to modify successfully; especially the milled receiver AKs.
