Red Laser Model

Written on Jan 14, 2024

Having other products that use a green laser, I may have simply lost touch with what is to be expected from red lasers but this particular model I do not recommend, not even at a sale price. Save your money and get the green. Wheeler does supply a 10"x10" vinyl decal for assistance in spotting the laser, which does help. The vinyl decal has a silver metallic color which reflects the light well, but getting the laser onto the 10"x10" decal is a task in and of itself when the red laser is this difficult to spot. In my case, the time was 2:22pm and the laser was aimed onto the shaded side of a wooden fence that was 25 yards out. I couldn't spot the laser until I closed the distance to 15 yards. Is it doable, yes. Is this a quality product, yes. Is the frustration worth the difference in cost between the red and green laser, no. Not even for a tight budget. Save the extra and go green.

Liberty green dot

Written on Jan 05, 2024

I own the Sentinel, Kingslayer and Liberty, and this one I believe is my favorite of the three. As with the others, the green dot is very bright, with setting 7/10 being sufficient for most settings on a sunny day. Unlike the other two, the Liberty has a top-mounted battery, which is superior (in my opinion) to the Sentinel and mostly equal with the tray of the Kingslayer. Unlike the awkward button placement on the Sentinel and 16mm glass, the Liberty has both buttons conveniently side-by-side, and has a 22mm glass. If the Liberty came with the option of having the RMS-C footprint, I would quickly replace my Sentinel.

Green circle dot

Written on Jan 05, 2024

I own both the Sentinel and Liberty, and compared to those two, I'm no fan of the Kingslayer with green circledot. I purchased this optic with intentions to mount it onto the Ruger Mark IV picatinny, and did, but I quickly realized that this was not a great setting for it. With this particular model extended out to arms reach, the outer circle expands and begins to touch the very outer edges of the 22mm glass. Not a huge issue so long as I could remain perfectly still, otherwise the outer circle "falls off" the outer edge, which leaves a distracting view of dissappearing and reappearing segments of the outer circle. I moved the optic onto a rifle and the problem was resolved. The closer the optic is to your eye, the smaller the reticle, thus the more open the glass is. All in all, I now feel that the the main thing that this particular model has going for it is the battery tray. I do recommend the green circle dot model, but only for a rifle or shotgun.

Great product

Used for mounting a PA SLX onto the AR platform. The matte finish is just as advertised. The QD functionality is smooth, with plenty of retention. The hight leaves just enough room to easily mount the gen 3 flip-up backup sight from Magpul without either of the two coming into contact. Perfect for my use. Nothing more I could ask for.

RA-242 for M&P 15

Written on Dec 14, 2023

Fantastic upgrade for my M&P 15. Installation of the trigger and anti-walk pins was a breeze. Pull weight reduction, break, reset, and blade design provides a whole new look and feel. I was not entirely sure how I would like the straight, blade-style of the trigger, but now I feel that I prefer this style over the traditional curve. 100% recommend.

More pros than cons

Written on Dec 06, 2023

I've mounted the Sentinel green dot onto the Springfield Hellcat and have run it through 500 rounds thus far with minimal complaints. For the price of this optic, I'm not sure it can be beat. The green dot is PLENTY bright. Thus far, I have found setting 7 out of the 10 to be more than enough on a bright, sunny day. The only complaints I have are minimal. First, there are no audible nor palpable indications when making adjustments, only a silent and smooth twist. Secondly, and this one should have been apparent for me before purchasing; with the manual model and being a right-handed appendix carrier, the "downward" button is located on the right side of the optic, which rests very closely to my pant-line. With the button in this location, I do occasionally find that the optic has been turned off during repeated kneeling and bending throughout the day. Not a deal-breaker but something worth considering and making plans for. Overall, I do not regret this purchase and would certainly recommend this optic.
