I’d been looking at scopes for some time for my AR-15. I felt that I wanted a little more magnification that 4X and of course had a budget to contend with. I looked at this scope and the reviews at the various gun forums and thought the Leupold AR might be an intriguing possibility. As I have been getting older the easy target acquisition of a Red Dot combined with 9X magnification were the deciding factors. I also considered the Nikon 223 Series with BDC, and the Vortex Strike Eagle.

The scope arrived last week and I mounted it with the Leopold intergraded cantilever mount. I laser bore sited the scope and went out to the range. I had it at zeroed in at 25 and then 50 yards within a few rounds. I was working on going 100 yards when the wind came up and made it difficult to stand let alone sight in a rifle. So 100 yards will need to wait and see on a calmer day.

The Green FireDot is slick and can be adjusted with varying brightness. I like that the dot is small and does not cover the target, at distance, and provides enough illumination to easily mark the intersection of the cross hairs. During our range trip, the berm was subject to full sunlight and transitioned to dark shadows as the day progressed. With the FireDot I hardly noticed. Our targets were the usual assortment of light-dark high contrast sight in grids. We are also successfully hitting the bull’s eyes on the 4-6 inch targets at 50 and 100 yards.
