Great Barrel!

Written on Jan 14, 2017

Faxon Firearms makes really good quality parts and their barrels are no exception! The finish is great, the barrel fits with no issues the accuracy is better than most standard factory barrels (subject to the shooter). The 1-8 twist on a 14" barrel may not be optimal for all shooters but for a 60gr Hornady ballistic tip it works perfect. Just over an inch and a half at 100 yards for a 5 shot group off a backpack.

Solid piece of equipment!

Written on Dec 23, 2016

USA Made! Great addition to the traditional M4 style. With everyone going to full length monolithic rails this is a solid addition to your "standard" M4. Easy instal for hobbyist /basic armorer or gun smith. UTG's has added anti-rotation tabs that help it stay locked up tight without over torquing the hand guards. Front sight (A post) is about 1mm off the rail so it keeps its Freefloat integrity and rock solid for attachments. Will purchase again if needed for future builds

Good looking but has a few draw backs!

Written on Dec 23, 2016

Bought these as a replacement for some old steak knives. The price was pretty good from Optics Planet with the "sale" but full price might have been stretching the value. Solid, full tang knife. The "Damascus" steel blades are pretty thick and the edges are very steep. For finer cutting you will have to put a lot of edge work into the blade. The walnut handles are finished but rough (nicks and dents), they will need to be treated if used in a wet environment. The sheathes are just rough sewn heavy leather and do NOT have the retention strap seen in the picture. (just a scabbard style, but functional if used). They will function for my purpose as a steak knife but I'd be leery if I was to use these afield. I'm not sure the country of origin (no markings or stickers) but they are all unique and definitely hand made.

Smooth Bolt!

Written on Dec 22, 2016

The people at Radian (AXTS) are really producing some great products. This Bolt and Bolt Carrier Group are no exception. MilSpec BCG with its Black Nitride coating are super smooth and well finished. I've used BCG's from other big names that just didn't have the attention to finishing. Cost was very respectable from Optics planet and the free shipping made the difference from other competitors.

Good light, some flaws!

Written on Sep 04, 2016

First off the Pulsar IR Flashlight was made in Bulgaria (not china). Quality is very good for a factory refurb. The amount of IR illumination this puts out is incredible. Using Gen III PVS14's on a moonless night in an open desert canyon this increased my functional range by at least 150 yards maybe 200yds. I could ID people from bushes and could illuminate ridge lines against a black moonless sky. The down side is the unit can only be used on the most forward rail section due to a weird notch that is built into the light! Not sure if it could be dremeled off but I'm sure it would void any warranty. But over all for the price it is a functional piece of gear. For generation II NVG's this would make a huge difference in your range and operational capability.

Don't expect too much.

Chinese made, but functional for certain weapons. It DOES NOT fit the Ruger American rifle rail. These adapters have a flat bottom base and if your rifle has a rounded receiver they may (probably) not fit. The quality is okay for the price and again for certain applications they should work fine.

Spare mount for the caldwell brass catcher.

Written on Jan 30, 2015

If you already have the Caldwell brass catcher this is a great spare. Quality part with easy adjustment, no bells or whistles just a solid mount that will allow you to swap your catcher between weapons. You may need medium to high rings if you plan on mounting it under your optics. The low mount rings are to low.
