I ordered this product in February, Optics Planet charged me for it before I got it. They said that ATN makes them pay up front even though delivery wasn't until late June. After it finally arrived it was defective, the IR illuminator didn't work. Factory said I could return it for adjustment but not exchange since they didn't have any new ones in stock, neither did Optics Planet. Another problem with this unit is the power switch. It sticks out so when it's in the travel case when it's touched the unit turns on. Don't bother buying this POS it's not worth the money. ATN really bites the bag!
This was the second night vision rifle scope I purchased from Optics Planet, the first being from a different manufacturer. It looked a little more compact than my first so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was very disappointed. On a moonlit night without using the provided IR illuminator I couldn't make out anything 25 yards away. I tried using the IR illuminator and still couldn't see anything. That was performance. The other problem was mounting. The fixed mount has four different positions for the "bar" that sets in the slots of a Weaver mount. The bar can be reversed so there's actually eight different positions, but even with eight I couldn't mount the scope where it needed to be. The scope was so far back it blocked access to the hammer on my rifle. And lastly, it was very, very heavy. I returned it for a full refund.
Excellent product. However, the IR illuminator that comes with it is a problem. At 50 years it is like a bright red brake light that scares all the game away. For this to be a truly effective night vision riflescope the IR illuminator must be in the invisible wavelength. To solve the problem I had to purchase a Pulsar L-915 IR illuminator it has a red lable that can be seen at about 25 yards but disappears at 50 yards. This works great, however, there was still a problem. The riflescope has a weaver mount on the opposite side of the factory IR illuminator for mounting another product, in my case the Pulsar L-915. But there's a problem, the lens cover that is mounted on the scope opens to the side and blocks anything mounted on that side of the riflescope. I called Sightmark customer service and they told me I could remove the lens cover and rotate it 90 degrees so it opens up and that would solve the problem. I did as instructed and solved the problem. BUT, why would the factory install the lens cover so it would block anything on the weaver mount. IMHO the factory should ship the riflescope with the lens cover opening up instead of to the side.
