Recently purchased the Vortex Scout rifle scope for my mini-14 and needed a good set of lens covers for both the front and rear optic. They are a tad snug for the front optic while they fit perfectly for the rear. Either way they are an great choice as an addition to protect my new scope in the field. Easy to flip up, and close with a firm click. Highly recommended.
I previously ordered 8 10 round magazines for my new Ruger Mini-14 as the factory magazines are nearly twice the cost. At first all seemed to work o.k. with a few misfeeds at the beginning of one or two magazines per my earlier review. So I gave this product a 4 star review with the proviso that I thought the issue would resolve itself. Such is not the case however. Subsequent use indicates that there are some serious issues with how these magazines work. My latest experience was one in which I used all 8 fully loaded magazines, and during that time I had multiple random misfeeds. I was only able to resolve the issue by pulling and reinserting the magazine before it would strip a round into the chamber. As a matter of fact I got a "click" in stead of a "bang" twice from the same magazine! If I were to rely on these magazines in a self defense scenario I fear I'd be in serious trouble. Even my local gun smith (a Mini-14 guru) tried to fiddle with his Pro Mag magazines, and he gave up and got Ruger originals. I may keep the mags (for practice at the range) or destroy them, as I can not in good conscience sell them. Meanwhile, I will bite the bullet and get Ruger factory original magazines.
I ordered and received 8-10 round magazines for my new Ruger Mini-14 from Optics Planet. Everything arrived in good condition and in a timely manner. Each magazine was individually sealed in a Pro Mag labeled pouch. However, the first thing I noticed is that the magazines themselves do not have the Pro Mag logo stenciled on them (as seen in the photo), which I find a bit strange. Secondly the followers are not polished. Rather they are dull in color and texture. The Ruger OEM magazines have shiny polished followers. When compared to my two Ruger 5 round magazines, I notice that the Pro Mag magazine slide stop and feed lips have a slightly higher profile than the Ruger magazine. Today I loaded and fired 10 rounds from each magazine. Functionally everything appeared to perform well, with two exceptions. When I released the bolt on two of the full magazines, the first round did not strip completely from the magazine. A gentle push/tap on the bolt handle sent the first round into battery without further problems. I have yet to determine if this was due to operator error, or the newness of the equipment. However, no other issues were encountered. All in all these magazines are very sturdy, well made, and a great value.
