Impressed with 2700KP
Written on Mar 11, 2017
This review is for the Hornady RAPiD Safe RFID Model 2700KP with KeyPad Xtra-Large 98172, March 2017.
Was planning to buy the previous version, but the addition of the keypad made this a great little safe.
I read through the owners manual to set up the safe and I have to say I was impressed not only with the product but also the technical writing. You could tell they did a nice design job just by reading the manual.
Only thing they could have improved might be the wall wart power supply. I'd feel better if it was a little more hefty with a thicker, longer wire.
That's about the only nitpick I can find with the 2700KP except it could be a little larger for an "extra large" model. My Colt 1911 Officer's Model fits comfortably and my S&W 625 N-Frame with a 3" barrel and Hogue grips is cramped, but fits. My 5" Ruger MK II and S&W 327 TRR8 with a 5" barrel don't fit at all. Hopefully someday the 2700KP will be the "medium" version of the safe.
I use the RFID key fob and the keypad code. Tossed the circular keys in another safe. I'm using NiMH rechargeable AA batteries as they don't leak like alkaline ones do. So far they are working fine.
Haven't had the safe for long, but I'm very happy with it and would recommend it.
