Review for
Barska Large Biometric Rifle Safe
If this product was made in America, then I understand why the Chinese are beating us. I bought two of these safes after reading positive reviews. Both arrived defective. The solenoid that opens the lock did not work on either one. A call to Barska led to an admission that they have had trouble with many of these. So why were they shipped if many were known to be defective?? I had the option to return it or replace the solenoid myself. Since the safes were unboxed in order to discover they were defective trying to re-box them and send both back was a terrible option. I chose to replace the solenoids myself since it only involved a few screws and four bolts. How hard could that be? Famous last words.
The four screws that held each solenoid were in so tight that removing them resulted in several being stripped. I had to use pliers to grip the screws on several just to get them to turn enough in order to use a screwdriver. One of the solenoid's wiring had been "split" so that a spring was installed between the wires meaning I had to either disassemble more of the interior or cut the wire. I cut the wire. In that same safe one of the shelf's was hanging loose on one side. It appeared a spot weld did not hold, so it was attached only on one side.
Once the solenoids were replaced I programmed two of my fingerprints on each safe. While one safe seems to work well, the other repeatedly rejects my fingerprint. Repeated attempts eventually lead to results, but relying on biometrics o
