Pros and Cons with the Clutch 5.56 LEFT - - RIGHT Charging Handle 5STAR!
Written on Mar 27, 2019
First off, I commend Fortis for offering the Clutch charging handles at a reasonable price; sometimes, I think premium AR part manufacturers are a bit full of themselves and over price their products. At sub 40$, this Charging handle is a great value! Like most Fortis products, it is certainly top notch quality. Now, if you are going to run the RIGHT handed only, you will be absolutely in love with the Clutch! There is zero slop in the lever, and it takes palm blades or thumb/finger pulls with ease. Unfortunately, I did not get the RIGHT handed version, I have the LEFT handed charging handle. It works fair to good i would say. Only because where the latch hook makes contact with the upper receiver, you will notice the relief machined into the right side of the upper(this is where the latch hook latches into place. Because the latch is on the left, the latch-hook will never latch into place. I mean it works well don't get me wrong! If somehow there was still the latch-hook on the right side with obviously a left lever (again this is why the RIGHT would get 5 STARS because the latch is on the RIGHT side of upper receiver!)

If you have built a few lowers, you probably know how certain parts like castle nuts don't bring the same amount of fizzle as others. I am happy with the quality and I don't see why this castle nut wouldn't hold up to any level of normal use for a very long time. The finish is uniform and certainly adds the little touch that your AR15 friends will be sure to notice. I will certainly consider this for future builds given the price is reasonable. Negligible weight savings for sure, but looks slick! If you are looking to separate your build from the rest, this is a good part for you! Also, STAKE the bloody thing! It doesn't need a huge stake mark either. A small amount of endplate pushed over will be more than enough to keep any castle nut from backing off! Don't be the guy who doesn't stake his nut and loses his rig.
1. Castle nut walks off far enough to allow endplate to separate from lower receiver
2. Rear Takedown detent spring shoots out
3. Takedown pin walks out
4. Upper receiver pivots forward slamming open and bends pivot pin
5. Get the poo-poo scared out of you or worse
Don't laugh... this could happen if you don's stake your castle nut. Just stake it. Its not hard to remove a staked nut if its done like a normal person.

Good not Great

I absolutely will take fit and function over visual appearance any day. This endplate is solid, made from steel and is QD anti-rotational which is exactly what I want. The price is very good as well at 15$. However, I would pay another 5$ for this endplate if the finish were better. The first one I received had a better finish than this one(it almost had a bit of a rusty hue rather than a phosphate grey or a nitride black color. The 3 star is only because of the lack of attention to detail on the finish.

Very happy so far!

Ok, so the obviously preferred 7075 T6 Aluminum, position indicator markings, and the whole thing is beautifully coated with a dry-film lube (I believe the inside of the tube as well). I don't see why this receiver extension won't hold up for a long time.
