best baseplate for canik

Written on Apr 22, 2024

I’ve tried several other off brand plates for my Canik holsters and I gotta say.. it’s worth the extra $$ for the right gear! They’re solid and go on easily and I do not worry about the baseplate giving way to the spring tension. Dropped a few off brand ones and they’ve either marked or broken. These Canik plates may scratch a bit, but they stay in tact!

outdated.. but works!

Yikes! So a few things with this product… as best I can determine, this mag extension was designed for Canik’s original model grips. The “lip” on the back that everyone is seeming to have an issue with forms well with the OG Canik design. However, anyone who knows Canik is aware that their base model has been revised since the handgun was first introduced to the market. That being said, if you have one of Canik’s first iterations this will work great* with no modification required.
If, however, you own one of the newer models, especially one with a mag well attachment, then there will need to be some serious customization. I honestly could have gotten away with doing way less. I started by aggressively sanding away the rear lip on the extension which was necessary. However I noticed that once the lip was flush with the rest of the piece, it was the entire “back-strap” of the extension that was in the way. (I continued to sand down the top of the extension which, in hindsight, wasn’t necessary.) to solve this, I simply took a utility razor and, using the relief cuts on the back of the extension (no real idea why they are there unless Strike Industries intended them to be a reference point for exactly what I did, which, if that is the case, they should advertise…) worked the blade through the plastic till the entire rear of the extension was cut away. I then sanded down the remainder of the jagged plastic and now have a wonderfully functional* base extension.

what a difference

For anyone that has shot a Mosin, you know how squishy and unpredictable the trigger break is. When I installed the Timney trigger upgrade, my heart began racing from excitement. Now all I have to do is think about pulling the trigger and it shoots. It says that it’s adjustable but honestly I left it on whatever it shipped as. Great addition to anyone wanting to gain full use out of a classic.

doesnt live up to its looks

I was really hoping to enjoy this scope. I needed a long eye relief option for my M44 Nagant and thought this would fit the bill. It looked sleek and the reticle was perfect for my taste. Unfortunately that’s where the appreciation ended. When I went to bore sight the optic, the turrets would not change the POI. What’s worse is when I went to dial back the magnification, it no longer went down to 3x. I readjusted the turrets and got it down to 3x but then it’s wouldn’t dial up past 9x. I’m returning the item and hope to find something that can actually perform
