Better than expected

Written on Aug 09, 2017

At a large sporting goods store, I tried several higher priced popular brands and they were very good. I wanted to get higher quality lens than the scope that I have been using for years. Because I had confidence in Optics Planet, and knew that I could return it, I choose to spend half of what I thought I'd spend to get the optics I was looking for, so I took the chance. Unfortunately, no shop in my area had the Hawke spotting scopes to look at, so I was basing my decision on the rifle scopes that I have from Hawke. I was quite impressed at what I got. Even at 60x, the field is wide, has a sharp image, and very good eye relief. Better eye relief at 30x, and an excellent image for scanning at 20x. This is a remarkable spotting scope for the money.

Thinking that I might get a better image using a fixed focal length eye piece, I ordered a 33x from a photo supply source. I knew that with cameras using a prime lens was generally better than a zoom lens, I assumed that I would have a broader field and sharper image, I was wrong. the 33x was the same as the 20-60x eyepiece set at about 33x. I returned the the new eyepiece The is an excellent scope. You can't go wrong buying it. It may not hold up for the user who robs it on rocks, but my use is far more gentile. I will use it for nature watching, hunting and shooting range.
