Exactly what is needed for extras...

Written on Sep 26, 2019

I shoot action pistol events, and am very hard on my glasses. This hard case is perfect for packing along extra eyeshields, particularly if you want to be able to switch between coppers and clears, and have extras for each. Small, rugged---it works really well. (I dropped an ammo can on it accidentally, and none of the lenses in it got damaged or even scratched. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, in a nice compact package.

Excellent eye pro, outstanding price

Written on Apr 23, 2018

I destroy eye pro, and I shoot a lot. In the past, instead of buying expensive Oakleys or Rudy Project glasses, I just bought cheap $6 pairs by the case, and changed them out as I destroyed them, which occurred at a rate of about 1 per month.

I simply wasn't going to spend more money on something I was going to scratch up in a month of range trips. (I compete in USPSA, Steel Challenge, and Multigun, so I'm at the range a lot doing a lot of shooting.)

A friend suggested I try these, because it is true that cheaper glasses just aren't as clear, nor as durable. (Or as comfortable.) And I liked the idea of a regular pair for summer with in the ear protection, and the "suppressor" pair with the flat earpieces for under the earpro wear in winter or indoors. The cost was low for the package, so I tried it.

And they are great. Clear, hard to damage/scratch, easy to change out lenses, the suppressor frames are excellent under headgear, both frame types are comfortable to wear, and the clear lenses and the copper lenses in particular are outstanding for shooting in varying levels of light.

And replacement lenses (for when I finally scratch up a set which is going to happen) are only $20. And so far, this lens set has lasted longer than 3 of my previous sets, so I'm going to be ahead on cost, I'm sure.

If you want to upgrade your eye pro, are hard on your glasses, but want good quality---this is an really good buy.

Excellent Small/Mid-sized range bag

Written on Feb 18, 2018

If you are looking for a range bag for one gun and some ammo, plus pockets for a small cleaning kit with space for eye and ear pro, this bag will do it very well. Nice thick nylon, sturdy stitching, tough zippers---it isn't huge, so you wouldn't choose this for a multi-gun trip, nor is it one that has a ton of extra space for extras if you normally bring the kitchen sink with you to the range, but for a one gun range trip, it works well.

My wife is using it when she shoots Rimfire Pistol Open in Steel Challenge, and it holds everything she needs to shoot that division in a full 8 stages of a SC match. Good quality in a nice compact bag.

Put this on a G42, have another set for a G43

Written on Jun 13, 2017

While in general I'm not a fan of a busy rear sight, I really like fiber optic front sights. In this particular case, given the tiny size of the G42 and G43, the green rear sight doesn't distract from the red front, and it makes it extremely easy to quickly acquire and line up the sights.

I use these pistols both for backup carry guns, and for GSSF competitions, and they work extremely well.

At half (or less) the price of a set of Dawsons, they are worth it.

Best Budget Microdot out there

Written on Feb 12, 2017

I have PA's Advanced Microdot on an AR-15 in .223, on a PCC in 9mm, on a .22 rifle, and a .22 pistol. I'm still using the same battery that came with the sight in all cases. It remains clear, stays zeroed, and is easy to adjust. (Both in terms of dot brightness and in terms of zeroing.) Dot can go bright enough to be used on a sunny summer day, but is adjustable down with a simple push button.

The TangoDown rubber cover fits it perfectly well (the cover for the T1), all controls can still be used, replacing the battery is simple if you ever actually have to do it. (I'm thinking that in three more years I'll do it whether it needs it or not.)

I've bashed it around in general practice, USPSA, Steel Challenge, and Multigun competitions. No issues at all. Well worth the price.

Trijicon RMR for carry pistol...does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Written on Nov 24, 2016

The Trijicon RMR does exactly what it should, when used as an optic on a carry pistol. It is rugged, simple to use, and holds zero even after some fairly abusive behavior. (Used in a high-round, high-intensity advanced pistol class.)

It IS still an optic, so mist/rain can create fogging and emitter-blurring issues, but that is expected. The dot itself (when dry) is clear, bright, and works well.
