This was to be my third Hornady Rapid RFID product but unfortunately it seems no QC is being done on the cheap electronics. At first the unit would not power up. I discovered the battery block was so tight the batteries would not engage with the terminals as the springs couldn't overcome the clamping force. A little prying on them got the unit to power up. It was then I discovered the programing button wasn't functional making this essentially a big paperweight as I couldn't change the 1234 keycode or program an RFID tag. The button had no tactile feel and when pressed it stuck to the rear. It's obvious nobody checked this unit for function before being shipped. Also the quality of the keypad buttons felt very cheap. On the plus side the box construction felt good and there's a generous amount of room inside the box. I would rather Hornady charge more for these rather than put inferior electronics in them, especially when you're trying to protect something like a firearm.
