When it comes to optic mounts, I must admit that I'm a bit highbrow. I, currently, employ NightForce, Badger Ordinance, Seekins, and Scalarworks mounts on various tactical and precision rifles. I decided to try these EAW Tactical Blue Line Roll Off Mounts, after researching the EAW Classic line for some hunting rifles and as I stated in my review of the EAW Classic Blue Line mount, I'm new to EAW mounts.
What you get in the Tactical line is the same German engineering, precision of components, and attention to detail, only in a more robust package. Something else different about the Tactical line is that one of the rings allows the mounting on a red dot or picatinny rail.
Like the Classic line, both inside diameters of the top and bottom rings have grooves to facilitate the use of liquid tape, which has been shown to keep your scope maintaining zero, especially with high recoil calibers and rifles that may be subjected to a bit of a rougher life. A thin smear of 3M Scotchkote can be used and the grooves will take up the excess once the rings are torqued down.
The ring screws are T20 and have torque specs of 22 inch pounds (2.5 NM). The clamp has a slotted 10mm nut with a T25 screw centrally. The clamp nut/T25 screw has a torque spec of 26 inch pounds (3 NM), The locking mechanism is double sprung, keeping all components in line for a smooth operation.
Generally speaking you get what you pay for when it comes to scope mounts; however with these EAW, value laden mounts
I did not know much about EAW prior to buying these EAW Classic Blue Line Roll Of Mounts. From research, I found out that they are a very well known and respected company overseas, known for their leading innovations. For example, their new 3D-Printed Scope Mounts.
I am very impressed with the engineering and precision of the components that are used in these mounts. These Classic mounts lock evenly to form a solid base for, both, my scout and traditionally mounted scopes. The upper rings are slightly sprung to insure excellent surface contact to the scope tube. The inside diameter of, both, the top and bottom rings have grooves to facilitate the use of liquid tape, which has been shown to keep your scope maintaining zero, especially with high recoil calibers. A thin smear of 3M Scotchkote and the grooves take up any excess. This worked well on my Marlin 45-70 Guide with the XS Lever Rail and I plan to use this same set up on a Marlin 35 Rem, as well.
They are easy to mount using a T25 and T15 T handle then a Fat Wrench to torque Ring screws to 14-18 inch pounds (1.6-2.0 NM) and Clamp screw to 22 inch pounds (2.5 NM). You will need to use some chop sticks or welding rods to slightly "unspring" the top ring during mounting to avoid marring your scope. Note: This is easily done.
Overall, at this price, these are hands down the best bang for the buck that I've, ever, gotten from a scope mount. A big thanks to Optic Planet for carrying these mounts and for the great service
