Worked for a while....

Written on Dec 10, 2024

This adapter worked... for about 26 months. Even upon installing it, I wondered if it was sturdy enough to last (relatively thin metal versus the 'outer' styles), especially on a 308 (muzzle brake). A few weeks ago, I was testing a new load and on only the fifth shot for the day, it sheared off inside the barrel (about two threads in) and threw the muzzle brake into my chronograph (Competition Electronics DLX, purchased from OP). Thankfully I'd purchased the lexan shield (also from OP) and it saved my chronograph. I've used the heavier 'outer' adapters before (i.e. Kaw Valley, Aim7, etc) for years on other rifles and they've never failed - especially like this. Thus, I ordered and installed the Kaw Valley adapter. Just my insight, YMMV. Good luck...

Perfect Adapter

I didn't purchase this item from OP but it's the exact item. This thread adapter is well made and is THE ONLY CHOICE if you need such for a rifle (the smaller "inner"/less conspicuous style eventually shears/separates/flies through the air and hits 'things'... ask me how I know)!

AWESOME Performance!

I've always used muzzle brakes (MB/MBs) to increase accuracy, reduce recoil and allow for faster follow-ups. I replaced all but one A2 'flashhider' over the years (left one on a 22lr which came with it pinned), and much data and tests have become available in the last 5 (or so) validating my choices. One such was the VG-6 Gamma (2 chamber) I used on my Savage bolt-action 223 (and other rifles). I always saw smaller groups and felt less recoil compared to "no MB" but several sled, pendulum and sophisticated "total impulse" tests of late have validated that the VG6 Gamma as a good MB. These tests also indicated that this MDT Comp Muzzle Brake was slightly better... thus, I gave it a try. Without a doubt, it IS better at recoil mitigation but it not only shrank group sizes of my Savage 223, it also makes it easier to maintain groups/avoid fliers! YMMV but you can't lose with either...

Fits RIA 1911 GI FS HC

Written on Mar 01, 2022

Great grip. The pic is generally the same as what I received but the screw holes correspond to the RIA 1911 A2 FS HC (double-stack grip w/o the extra mag well). Fit is tight with just barely enough flex/stretch to align all 4 screw holes. Grip much more comfortable than the stock/other polymer (et al.) grips and absorbs much of the vibrations.

Great stock but...

I was looking for a solid thumbhole stock for a 1022 target build. It came down to a Boyd's Blaster or TacSol Vantage stock. Here are a few considerations to maybe help other's decisions. The quality of both stocks are great IMO but the finish and grip on the Vantage are superior to me. I ended up using the Boyd's Blaster because for my size (6'+ tall), the Blaster's cheek weld is larger/higher/further offset to the right, the stock/butt pad is larger and the foreend has more barrel support for a 20" heavy bull barrel on a stock 1022 receiver (much stress on a slip-fit and V block).

I was looking for a solid thumbhole stock for a 1022 target build. It came down to a Boyd's Blaster and this stock (TacSol Vantage). Here are a few considerations to maybe help other's decisions. The quality of both stocks are great IMO but the finish and grip on the Vantage are superior to me. Even so, I ended up using the Boyd's Blaster because for my size (6'+ tall), the Blaster's cheek weld is larger/higher/further offset to the right, the stock/butt pad is larger and the foreend has more barrel support for a 20" heavy bull barrel on a stock 1022 receiver (much stress on a slip-fit and V block). However if I were a bit smaller and/or using a 16" barrel, the Vantage is an excellent stock.
