Definately Not A Universal Fit

Written on Feb 16, 2017

This stock will not fit a Remington 700 LA rifle with a J Lock bolt/bolt shroud. Even if you change the J Lock bolt shroud to a standard shroud the extended J Lock cocking piece will still hit the cheek piece when the bolt is fully retracted. The only solutions are 1) Change the entire firing pin assembly to a standard assembly available from Brownells for $65 and shipping. 2) Install a no rise cheek piece, which Magpul was kind enough to send me, but that ruined my sight picture through the scope. I opted to spend the $65 for the standard firing pin assembly from Brownells.

The second problem is one the other reviewer mentioned. The bolt cannot be removed or installed without removing the cheek piece. That results in multiple possible consequences such as cleaning difficulty unless you carry a tool around to remove the screw. In a hunting situation, if you had to pull the bolt, you'll have to have a tool. During competition, some ranges require bolt removal to make the line safe. Some ranges require it even outside competition events. Again, you need a tool and you'll be holding up everyone while you disassemble the stock to remove the cheek piece and remove the bolt. A real pain. Magpul should have modified the design of the LA stock moving the cheek piece further back but they instead chose to use the same stock spacing as the SA to obviously save production costs. That resulted in a failure on Magpul's part.

The third problem is that the trigger guard screw

Great Scope....But.

Written on Sep 15, 2014

I bought the scope with the illuminated reticle option. The problem is that the reticle, when lit, is invisible except in very late dusk or dark even at the highest setting. Useless, in other words, since I don't shoot in the dark. Perhaps useful for a sniper in very low light conditions. So, if you buy this scope, opt for the unlighted reticle since it will weigh less and you won't have that useless extra clunky switch sticking up above the eye piece. The reticle is very nice and the scope functions well. It's a good thing that, without the reticle lit, that the etched reticle is visible like a standard reticle. If it depended on the light all you'd have is a telescope. All turrets function as they should if you read the instructions on how to use them correctly. If you don't read the instructions you'll be mystified as to why you can't make any adjustments. They are a bit complicated compared to most scopes for no good reason except to be different and more complicated I'm certain. Unique isn't always better IMHO.
