Based on an inadvertent puncture test using a cactus and my rear end, these pants are not 100% cactus proof but are highly cactus resistant. Upon standing up after the test event, I felt a small itch in the posterior and discovered, with my bare hand, that I had sat on two cacti. The cacti found my hand much less puncture resistant and willingly abandoned the pants for their new home. Only one small spine made it through the material. If cactus sitting is your intended use, I recommend an additional layer of protection. Otherwise, they performed very well and held up to briers and thorns.
