Cheapie but a goodie

Written on Nov 15, 2018

This is a cheap end scope. It's built well and performs very well. I use it on a .222 Rem hunting rifle and I'm going to buy another for a .22 Hornet. If your eyes are a bit worn-out, I'd recommend something with a focus and not this scope or any scope w/o a focus adjustment. What really makes this a good buy is the warranty. Vortex warranty is by far the best in the business. This 1 in. tube scope with its 44mm Objective lens is as bright as any other scope out there. It could have been a tad longer in the tube for better mounting but its good eye relief compensates for that. This is by far a best buy, for your money, in my book.

Really Great Scope

Written on Jun 28, 2017

Installed on a custom 22-250. Great performing scope at 300 yds. With Vortex rings this is an outstanding value especially with Vortex's Warranty coverage. I'd highly recommend this scope for any hunting application.

Just a shooting rest

Written on Jun 28, 2017

It's a good rest but it's just a shooting rest. Protektor makes a number of bags for it. Protektor's super slick replacement bags will improve the rifle handling. All in all, a rest is just something to hold the front of a rifle. It's the time on the range that will improve your shooting. This rest isn't a Sinclair International Comp rest but it does the same job and at a fraction of the cost.

One of the best for the money.

Written on Mar 21, 2017

This is a very tough scope. I've had it on a few different magnums and it's always held true. I'm not one to claim this will help you shoot better but for some one on a budget this scope might do the job. What's more important is the Vortex Warranty. If anything happens to it, Vortex will fix it for free and pretty quick too. I just wish Leopold/Redfield had that kind of warranty. I'll be shooting this scope in the varmint class this year. It will be mounted on the 5th different rifle. Seriously, I've had a number of shooters tell me they don't like Vortex, but I've got several along with Night Force and Leopold Comp scopes and Vortex is the best bang for the bucks in hunting or competition shooting.

so far, so good

Maxima Ruger Riflescope Rings for 30mm PA Ruger 77- medium height. Mounted a 30mm tube scope with a 50mm objective lens on a MKII-77 these rings will hold the scope off about 3/32 in. above a 1.2 in. straight barrel. I lapped the rings to see how close the manufacturing was and it was very close indeed. I don't think it needs to be lapped. For those that aren't used to Ruger rings, one ring, the taller of the two, goes on the rear. I have no idea how well they will hold but if they're anything like other Warne rings they should work just fine.

A very good all-around scope

Written on Aug 26, 2016

This scope has no noticeable parallax at 50 yrds. I've been using this scope to shoot .5 moa at 100 yards and I haven't had any issues with it at all. I have no idea of the battery life because I haven't used the battery. Everything about this scope seems to work well. The center circle is small and light enough to easily focus on a small target area at 200 plus yards. Very nice recticle. When mounting you may need to go to a medium ring on a rail mount or a tall ring on a double mount. (like the Rem700).

Very Poor Warranty

Written on Jul 30, 2016

I bought 2 of these scopes. One had to be sent back to Redfield to repair an unusual amount of parallax. It was returned with at least a 1 inch deviation parallax at 100 yrds. I called Redfield twice and was told that this scope is supposed to have a 3/8 in. parallax at 50 yrds. I explained that the other scope I have has no noticeable problems. No reply. No offer to repair. I have bought and mounted 5 different Redfield scopes and this is the only one I've had problems with. Buyer beware!

Very Nice Hunting Scope

Written on Mar 05, 2015

This is the Japanese made Zeiss. Mine has the RZ-8 Reticle. The Question is: Is it worth the price? The answer: It is and only if you can afford it - remember you're buying the name. Set at 10x this is where this scope shines. It shouldn't be difficult to shoot 800 plus yards at 10x. It is every bit as good as a comparably priced Leupold although the warranty is not. The reticle doesn't increase in size much like the front focal plane scopes. Now the downside. Redfield scopes will offer the best bang-for-the-buck and their clarity is almost as good. ----- The Terra 4-12X42 is a nice quick hunting scope that should work really well with .30 cal. rifles. Take advantage of Zeiss' website bullet drop calculator for the different hash marks. Mine is mounted on a 700BDL, .308 with a 21 in. barrel, that's shooting custom loads.

Better than avg. scope for an 18x

Written on Sep 29, 2014

The Redfield Battlezone scopes, both 3x9 and 6x18, are constructed well and have very good glass. The 2nd. focal plane TAC Reticle, or any reticle, can be an advantage if used properly. The only other scope I could compare this to would be the Vortec Crossfire II and the Redfield has a reticle that seems a little more crisp. I doubt if you would gain much by spending more money for any other 6x18, or higher power, general hunting scope.
