Great vest for IDPA

Written on Feb 01, 2017

I bought this vest to replace one that was stolen. I considered a custom vest, but didn't want to spend the money. This one has worked well for me. About 90% of IDPA shooters wear 5.11 vests for competition.

This was a great buy.

I bought a roller, wet, drum brass washing unit. This was the perfect complement. The five separate trays lets me spread out the brass so I can maximize the air flow. I heard that drying brass in the oven will discolor the brass, so I use the lowest heat setting (90). I have checked to see how quickly the brass is dry; I let the unit run an hour and then unplug it and let the brass sit. I popped out the primer to make sure the primer pocket was dry, and it was. For competition brass, I decap the brass before tumbling and 30 minutes in the dryer seems to be enough.

Good buy, but one warning.

This sight is for my Walther PPQ M1. I would have given this sight a 5, but there is one problem. In order for the sight to be accurate, I had to insert a shim on the top of my slide. This is the second HiViz sight that I've ordered for my PPQ. Both have needed a shim to be accurate. The sight itself is great. I especially like the cover on the fiber to keep the fiber highly visible. My M&P came with a fiber optic front sight, and I have to replace the fiber a couple of times a year to keep it visible.
