HOLOSUN HS515GM Red Dot - great quality, I very much prefer this to SIG Romeo5 due to reticle option
Written on Aug 31, 2023
Great quality red dot for the price. I chose this HOLOSUN HS515GM red dot over others from different makers because of the “Shake Awake” (motion activated illumination) technology. Another feature that I like about HOLOSUN over the SIG Romeo5 is I have a reticle choice to use a 2 MOA dot or a 65 MOA circle with 2 MOA dot.
My carbine/rifle with the HS515GM red dot is always ready to go as soon as I pick up the firearm. The illumination goes off after the gun/red dot is at rest for 2 minutes. The “Shake Awake” system is very sensitive, a slight knock on the gun turns the red dot on. The only issue I have with this red dot is the included mount that gives a height of 1.63” or 1/3 lower co-witness, it sits too high for my need. I replaced it with a SCALARWORKS LEAP/01 with a height of 1.42” to get an absolute co-witness which of course made the whole setup expensive. Overall look of the setup (HS515GM + SCALARWORKS LEAP/01) is great!
I have two HOLOSUN HS515GM’s, one for an ADM UIC Mod2 13.9" 5.56mm Carbine and another for a BARRETT REC7 DI 16” 5.56 Carbine. ADM - American Defense Manufacturing

Perfect replacement for stock HOLOSUN HS515GM Riser Mount to get absolute co-witness on iron sight
Written on Feb 27, 2023
I bought a HOLOSUN HS515GM Red Dot which is a very good product except for its included riser mount which gives a lower 1/3 co-witness view for iron sights. Replacing the stock mount with this Scalarworks LEAP 1.42" riser gave me the exact height I need for absolute co-witness.

Very clear glass, compact scope, works well wit AR-15 carbine/rifle or air rifle
Written on Aug 24, 2022
This ATHLON Helos BTR scope has very clear glass and gives sharp target image. Compact for a 12x power at 12.75". I have used it both for an air rifle BSA Scorpion SE .25 cal and an ADM UIC Mod2 5.56mm Carbine 13.9". The FFP reticle is useable from magnification power 2x thru 12x, although the circle-dot reticle is on the thick side at 10x-12x magnification. Reticle thickness is about right at 6x-8x power.
One major flaw of this scope is the inaccurate markings on the distance knob. At an actual distance of 10 yards, the dial marking is at 15, an actual distance of 25 yards shows about 30 yards on the dial. I wish there is a way to correct this problem.
Overall, I am satisfied with the quality of this scope despite the flaws I have described.

SIG Romeo5 1x20mm - SOR52001

Review for
SIG SAUER ROMEO5 1x20mm 2 MOA Red Dot Sight
Great quality red dot for the price. I chose this Sig red dot over others from different makers because of the MOTAC (motion activated illumination) feature. My carbine/rifle with the SIG Romeo5 red dot is always ready to go as soon as I pick up the firearm. The illumination goes off after the gun/red dot is at rest for 2 minutes. The MOTAC system is very sensitive, a slight knock on the gun turns the red dot on.
I'm using this SOR52001 with an ADM UIC Mod2 13.9" 5.56mm Carbine.

Veyron 3-12x44mm FFP - Very good quality for the price.

Review for
Vector Optics Veyron 3-12x44mm Rifle Scope
This Vector Optics Veyron 3-12x44mm FFP scope is clear and holds zero very well. Very compact at 10-3/4” and lightweight Reticle is very fine but works well and visible from 6-12x zoom magnification, hard to see and practically unusable from 3-5x. Turret for elevation and windage are very well designed and convenient to use – zero adjustable with lock feature to prevent from accidental adjustments.

MEOPTA MeoPro 10x42 HD vs. MAVEN C1 10x42 ED
Written on Mar 02, 2021
MEOPTA MeoPro Positives:
1. Clear and brighter glass. It is hard to quantify these parameter without comparing them to another binocular of similar class and price range, so I chose the MAVEN C1 10x42 ED to compare the MEOPTA with and I can say that the MEOPTA has a slight edge on the Maven.
2. Field of view is a bit wider than the MAVEN.
3. Body hinge is tight enough to hold its position, same tightness as the Maven.
4. Focusing knob is tight enough and make focusing fast. It is a bit less tight in comparison with the MAVEN. Both are good and acceptable, it is just a question of personal preference.
5. The MEOPTA Meopro 10x42 HD I received is marked ‘Assembled in Czech’. The MAVEN C1 10x42 ED is marked ‘Japan’. Other Maven C1 I have seen are marked ‘Philippines.
MEOPTA MeoPro Cons:
1. Eye placement with the MEOPTA is very critical, one needs to position the eyes right at the center of the ocular lens, otherwise, it is easy to lose the image. It is like looking through a small long tube (say a straw), you can only see through when the tube is perfectly aligned with your eyes. It can be improved by adjusting the rubber eyecups by at least one position away from the ocular lens but this narrows down the field of view.. The MAVEN C1 10x42 is more forgiving with eye placement, I never have to tilt and move the binocular to hunt for the image.
2. There appears to be a lack of focus at about 5 o’clock position and about 2/3rd from center to edge of the glass. It seems to be
