Needs a little TLC - interior unfinished cowhide sheds
Written on Mar 25, 2021
Review for
1791 Gunleather ThumbBreak Belt Holster
I ordered one of these for a 1911 and the leather is thick and stiff with a very secure hold which I wanted in a OWB holster.
However the hold was TOO stiff even after the recommended break-in of holstering the gun with plastic bags wrapped around the firearm. The unfinished cowhide interior shedded bits of leather on every edge whenever "clearing leather".
This was alleviated by applying a lanolin/silicone mixture to the interior and gently heating the holstered firearm wrapped in a plastic bag, working back and forth until the interior was waxed and broken in.
Now it draws great - but there was labor involved getting it there, hence 4/5 stars

Digital marking on the bottom
Written on Aug 31, 2020
The magazine is well constructed. However, there is a "feature" on the bottom of the magazine, a digital embossing. The packaging indicates that you can use paint to mark your magazines from 00 to 99.
This digital embossing thus shows "88" if you don't paint in the lines. This seems like a thinly veiled reference to me, and I won't buy these magazines again.
