So Far, so good

Written on Nov 21, 2019

OK, I haven't used this suit in the field yet -- you really don't need this much insulation in SC. But I am headed for Nebraska in a week or so, and it's going to be cold. I spent most of my life in Maine, so I know a bit about hunting in cold weather. Sitting in the cold for any length of time is no fun. Layer all you like, but dress warmly enough for the 'sit', and you'll sweat on the way to your stand. Then you'll freeze. Suits like this one allow you to dress sensibly for the walk in, then bundle up. Think of the AS Insulator Suit as a sleeping bag with feet, and you've got the general idea.
When my suit arrived I unpacked it to look it over. The size (L) seemed appropriate for me at 5'10", 165lb. Getting into the suit was relatively easy except that the lining seems a little 'grabby' when I was trying to get my boots into the legs. I was impressed by the apparent quality of design and materials. Zippered slits make it easy to get your arms out without letting all of the warmth escape. I appreciated the inclusion of a fluorescent 'hunter orange' overlay (meeting requirements in most jurisdictions), and a slot for your tree-stand safety harness. I could not give the suit 5 stars without knowing how it would perform in cold weather, and how it holds up in long-term use, but I feel comfortable with 4 stars for now.
