Faster and lighter than carrying a rear bag

Written on Mar 12, 2019

I used to carry a rice filled bag for a rear rest when hunting, but it's somewhat heavy, bulky, and prone to being left on a mountain when you need to move positions quickly or when it's getting dark. This monopod has been a great addition to my hunting gear. It's quicker to use than I originally expected, lighter than my rice bag, and can't be forgotten. The adjustment range isn't that much, but it's enough that if you need more height when shooting in awkward positions, you can put something under it and the incremental adjustment gets you right on target. The only thing I would change, but not sure exactly how it would be implemented is that it would be nice if it tilted 15 degrees to either side when shooting on the side of a hill. Bipods have tilt, but the monopod doesn't and slides downhill a little when shooting at steeper sideways angles.

Not cheap, but excellent for larger calibers.

I have been looking at this for a couple years and finally spent the money to have it on my .375 CT. Cheaper bipods, even Harris just can't stand up long term with heavy recoiling rifles. Optional leg extensions, plus optional feet make this a solid bipod on nearly any terrain. The ability to fold the legs up to 180 degrees apart from each other makes it ideal for hunting situations when all you have near you is a funky shaped rock and a broken tree limb to rest on. If you are looking for a solid rest that won't fold up or bend every time you pull the trigger, I highly recommend this one.
