It's aluminum, and it's cheap so there is that.
I know how to measure, and the ring on my P.A. 4-14x44 MRAD is 43mm/1.1690 Should easily work right? ...NOPE... Even with the supplied foam tape it was too big to be secure when tightened, so I don't know how they came up with 42-48mm.
All is not lost though, two layers of thin sticky back felt proved just right to secure it and hold in place when fully tight.
Is dump the troublesome unreliable shepherds hook. Better than the non fitting clumsy Tapco plate. I was hoping for something a little better though, I mean they work just fine, but I would still give the nod to Red Star over these. These seem to be just plain stamped steel where the red star are thinner spring steel and lock on to the hammer pin. A worthy second choice.
I guess the eastern block countries have smaller hands. My fingers wrap too far around the little grip uncomfortably. This also has a reduced grip angle, to conform with the present style presentation. IE you wont have your chicken wing sticking out. The purists will balk, but I'm more about function than form. The end cap is removable to store small items in the grip. It will not fit a pill shape cleaning kit.
Inexpensive goodness in a small package. These work very well and stay put, I have used them on four different AK types and was satisfied. Just pay attention when starting the threads it will easily cross thread and end up crooked. I do not believe they would hold up to full auto.
Perfect fit, good finish reasonably priced for a good quality product. There are more expensive "bullet proof" ones out there, but the gas tube is/was designed to fail before the firearm as a safety feature so this one fits the intended purpose just fine.
This gas block is no longer like the picture. It has changed to the usual run of the mill "pinch at the bottom" type block. THAT SUCKS! I even went to YHM website and checked it out. Yeah it's still YHM, and its nice quality, but the clamp style feature is what I liked about it the most. It was a great improvement over the pinchy style. I wish I knew they weren't making them the same any more or I would have bought a few when I had a chance.
