If you are buying a JP silent captured buffer spring this is not necessary, but don't skip it, it will make your life so much easier! Removal is so much easier with this pin. JP mentions you can run without a retaining pin, but this is a great way to retain the pin and have easy access to the buffer as it doesn't get stuck like the stock one.

Easy to install and enough clearance for FF handguards on my carbine. Looks great. Just what I needed to still use gas block mounted sights and extended carbine handguards. Couldn't be happier. The only down is that it did not come with a spacer for FFHG.
