I own a Surefire X300 Ultra and this Streamlight TLR-1 HL; I greatly prefer the TLR, because when you are doing tactical shooting you can turn the TLR on and off without locking the switch. Personally I use the master grip commonly used by LE, competition shooters, and Militar. Between my grip and the switch style I can easily keep the light active with my left thumb (even during recoil) and instantly go dark when I release thumb pressure on the switch. The TLR does have a longer range and less dispersion of light at 100 yards. Both the X series and TLR have options for different size pistol and rifle rails, and the TLR is by far the easier to adjust and move on or off the platform.
