needs to be lapped, pretty heavy

Written on May 19, 2023

This mount will need to be lapped before mounting a scope, just wish they said so outright in the description. Like so many SI products, the idea is neat but execution is mechanically poor. The weight of the mount adds up with an optic as well. Just figure out where you want your optic to sit and get an aero cantilever mount for less anyways.

clinically underrated

Written on Apr 28, 2023

A fantastic compromise of flash reduction, recoil mitigation, and concussion/sound direction downrange. Wolf steel out of a 16" mid gas leaves no perceptable flash for the shooter, without the a2 paincage blast sideways. Venturi cuts are effective compared even with the smith vortex. Timing is neccessary with the included crush washer, any ar armorer's tool with the muzzle device wrench will fit. The larger cut to be timed upwards provides a degree of recoil compensation somewhat comparable to the a2 paincage, on an already flat shooting platform. The lack of cut on the downward facing side reduce dust signature compared to a 4 prong flash hider significantly. By all means worth the bucks compared with similar priced and more expensive options. The build quality is extremely solid, no question about its longevity. Note it's not pre drilled for pin and weld.

solid, subtle bolt catch

Written on Dec 30, 2022

Not obnoxiously large but not too small. The photos don't do the raised bottom bolt hold open justice. It's much easier to manipulate since it sticks out further than the paddle, even with gloves. Solves my biggest gripe with the ar-15 bolt hold open being trickier to use with thicker gloves. Ambi mag releases are still easy to operate. The build quality is great, have had no fitment issues. Price isn't unreasonable given end user value. Just barely fits the BRN upper receiver notch. Plus, dimples are cute. Recommend seekins mag catch to compliment.

Wimpy rail covers

Written on Aug 18, 2022

They peel and fall out of rails when shooting, immediate fail. The heat insulation is sub par as well. Buy some decent magpul covers if you want something that stays on your rail. BCM makes good products, but with exceptions such as these rail covers.

Great on the range.

Can't speak for SBRs, but with 5.56 16"+ barrels & bullpups, the concussion is extremely reduced compared to an A2 birdcage. The recoil impulse is flat, and there is no flash visible in daylight. The difference in shot volume isn't true suppressor level, but for less than $50 it's significant. Obviously it heats up under sustained fire, but with no issues. Maybe use a crush washer if you want to keep it in place. Build quality is very solid, and the threading is well machined. No long term wear concerns.

Highly recommended if you don't want to be that person on the range no one wants to stand near, or if you simply value your dental fillings as they are. It's a diet suppressor that's legal in states that don't like flash hiders.

Pros: directs concussion energy from any barrel length away from the shooter, tames flash, flattens recoil (nothing crazy like a comp), good construction, and reduces perceived sound significantly. (Don't be dumb, always wear ear pro.)

Cons: may come loose without a crush washer if you don't snug it down enough. Don't expect to get the interior entirely clean.

TL;DR: buy one because it makes your firearm more pleasant to operate
