Very Bright

Written on Nov 18, 2015

Note that this review is for the front sight (F.S). This is a very bright sight. Installation was easy. Too easy in fact, as the sight was loose enough in the dovetail to not require a press to fit it. MeproLight says to use Loctite 609 on it, so I suppose that's OK. If it moves, I'll use a shim under the sight to tighten it up, but I don't think that will be necessary. I'm sure that this is manufacturing tolerances and you should expect to need to file any new sight for a proper fit. And of course you'll need a press tool to remove the old sight even if the new sight slides and glues into place.

Scattergun Tech Sights

Written on Sep 20, 2015

Great sights. I installed them last week on an 870 Tactical (the one with the long mag tube) and just shot with it today. I was only shooting at 25 yards, but it was right on target, after using a bore sight to set them up.

Instructions were not included, but I found many links to the Wilson Combat version of them, which is the same sight. I used the measurements given of 5.885" from the front of the receiver for the front hole, and 1.450" behind that for the rear hole, and the sight is right on. I did not have problems with the rear hole, it went into plenty of steel. Don't attempt this without a drill press and vise. And even then, you need to use some deep center punch marks due to the angle for the rear hole.

Ensure that you get a tap before you start. 6x40 shouldn't be hard to find. I could not find one locally, but perhaps surprisingly my local Ace had the #33 drill bit. I mail ordered the tap. Be sure to get tap oil unless you already have some, to prevent galling when cutting the fine threads.

The front sight bead platform on my barrel was off-center from the factory. Ensure that yours is centered before gluing the front sight on, or you won't be very happy with the results. I ground a bit off one side of the bead platform, until the new sight sat straight, then glued it on.

The front sight is very bright and easy to see in the dark, but the rear dots are very small and not very bright. If you're worried about too much light on the rear sight, that's
