I went with the gold/amber for because of my astigmatism and retinitis. While I can see my tager well I have trouble finding red or even green dots unless they are multi reticle. I pick right up on the gold dot even in bright sunlight. I perched it on a scalarworks riser because I didn't care for the ones it came with. So far so good.
Fit function and finish is the best I've seen so far. Will definitely Outlast the printed version. Thing to do before installation is to check their actual website because customers can post what triggers a receivers work the best with it before you start a build. Definitely do not modify your trigger in any way.
Charging handle channel is not milled correctly. Tris 5 different ones and all fit way too tight. I thought it might be the finish was thick but that's not the case.
Used aero precision pistol Lowe and bcg from another 300 and the charging handle will not insert without moderate force. Will not cycle rounds. I may have got a bad one.
I purchased this sight because the name stood out and it was marked way down at the time. I planned to throw it on a hi-point 995 someone had lost the sights off of. The reticle is nice and bright and its nice to be able to adjust the size. One issue that is a deal breaker is the fact the field of view is incredibly narrow. There is no fast taget acquisition with this sight. I would never suggest using it on something practical or in a life or death situation. Also you can clearly see all the wires inside and the diode circuit board . I own other firefield optics and they seem fairly high quality. I would have certainly returned this one if I would have paid full price.
After reading the reviews and watching what videos I could find I decided to go out on a limb and purchase this little guy. Im not sure if I got a lemon or if they are all this grainy. I cant determine what I'm looking at only feet away. Also the system freezes every few seconds for a second or two which makes having the reticle almost entirely useless. The freezing gets worse the longer its on or if you are navigating the menu and ive had to remove the battery to get the system to reset. If it were only a toy and not priced where other flir devices are then it may be acceptable, but at this pricepoint the quality is way below expectation.
I bought 4 of these a while back for some builds I was doing. Once assembled the charging handle wouldn't clear the end plate. Some simple modification would resolve this, but that is not something I should have to do especially for a new clean build. Needless to say they got trashed because they were in sale and not worth my time to return.
Got this because of the price and the name but quickly found out it is junk and out of spec. Used on an aero precision lower. Lesson learned is stick to what you know and don't penny pinch on a build.
I purchased two of these kits and upon first inspection everything seemed legit. When the tube was installed on the lower i noticed it was slightly canted after tightening the castle nut. When removed you could see where the endplate had cut into the threads. I assumed i had done something wrong so i used the second kit and it had the same issue. When a cheap tube was used from a takeoff there was no issue. I found i could literally turn the endplate into the threads with very little force so the aluminum has to be super soft. The stock itself is very nice so far. The bare stock can be had for around 20 bucks. The tubes i used with no issue were a brand like je machine or tacfire. For roughly the same price you can piece this together and save a lot of headache. Fortunately i have a lot of spare parts laying around...
