First off, huge vortex fan. I was excited about this optic. Then I got it.
The reticle is insanely pixelated looking (no I do not have astigmatism, yes I got checked, yes I had a replacement sent).
I own a few ACOGs and eotech exps 3-0 and this was the worst.
First off, I've left two other reviews. The first tube I received had minimal ambient light coming through the tube. It didn't match the spec sheet so I sent it back. Second tube was a refurb unit, marked white phosphor but a green tube and also had a major blemish from recoil damage. Sent it back.
Now for the third one- This was the exact product I bought. The spec sheet was through the roof and the blemishes were darn near non-existent. Two miniscule dots that are satisfactory on any set of nods. The tube is immaculate. The body is perfect.
Additionally, the data sheet had some phenomenal tube results and looks like I got what I wanted.
They also sent me TWO j-arms which is awesome since they are very flimsy and subjected to breaking a lot (trust me, as an infantryman I broke 3-4 a week on missions in Ramadi 05-06).
Customer service was great and the third time was the charm. So if you get a tube that doesnt match up or meet expectations, if you're willing to wait and hope to get a great one I am the proof it works
The one I received was stamped on the body as being white phosphor but did in fact have a green intensifier. They sent a refurbished unit that they pulled the white intensifier out and swapped with a green one. This was not a new unit.
When I powered on the PVS14, there was a giant burn in on the screen. They sent a damaged product.
I can't recommend this product as they clearly sent me a refurbished (selling as new) and damaged product.
Sent back and immediately contacted customer support.
I think I received a bad unit. The unit I received friday looked amazing. The PVS body was immaculate. I waited till nighttime and turned it on. After reading the spec sheet provided by Harris on the pinnacle tube there was some issues I had. For one it listed zero dots or black specs in the tube. That was false. I had one that wasn't terribly inconvenient but was not what I was expecting from a new unit.
The last issue and the main one I had (and another reason I think I received a bad tube) was the light amplification was pretty bad. I've used PVS_14's for over a decade and the ones I used in the infantry back in 04-09 were of much better quality, light gathering and crispness. The light amplification on this thing was off. Even under full moon it wasn't nearly to spec.
I sent this back today and asked the customer service rep who I worked with to ensure I get a better tube as an exchange with zero blemishes and tested. Hopefully this is done.
I'm sure a lot of people would be pleased with this and if I get another tube back that matches the specs and the data sheet I'm sure I will be. I think I just got a bad one.
If the exchange goes well and I get a good pinnacle tube I'll leave a full review on it but I want to make sure I give opticsplanet the benefit to send me another unit.
For the price, I don't think you can go wrong...but when you pay in the neighborhood they are asking you expect a new and unblemished product. Hopefully this gets fixed because I have been in
I wanted to like this. When you spend 2k on something you expect a lot.
It works. It works well. It’s not broken. But it’s really quite featureless, and terrible image quality on 6x zoom.
Overall, 4 hour battery life. The butter for me is the tiny image viewer. Incredibly narrow. Too bad. I have maybe 10 rounds through it and now going on eBay.
I bought this about a year ago and it's worked (barely) for 1 month of that.
The first one I received had an issue with holding zero. I sent it back and received the exact same scope with the same exact problem 3 weeks later. Discovered in addition to the fact the scope wont hold a zero and the reticle walks, it was also affected by the position of the shooters head in the sense the reticle would "walk" across the width of the optic and not hold the target in the crosshairs. Another no go.
Sent it in again for repair 4 weeks ago and should have the replacement today. I'm going to check it, then sell it. Not worth my time dealing with junk. Last Nikon I ever buy.
