Caveat 9mm owners!

Written on Aug 26, 2022

I’ve built several P80’s and learned some things about the parts and the importance of certain factory parts vs a kit. While I had to replace maybe 75% of another parts kit - mostly for my slide parts not lower - this one has required only one replacement part. Be aware that this DOES NOT ship with a 9mm ejector as written in the description, but a .45 ejector. I had to track down a 9mm otherwise the rounds will not chamber cleanly and get stuck. I figure it’s a simple, small, yet critical metal piece, probably only a couple bucks. Wrong! The only one I could find, that doesn’t come with a trigger assembly housing (which will run you about $35) is $14. So now this is a ~$70 lower parts kit which is no longer the cheapest you can find. You can I did also note that another review here is accurate… the springs are kinda rusty, though I don’t think it really effects the functionality at all, and if you’re inclined, you can soak the pieces in CLR - I, personally, didn’t waste my time.

Two kits, lots of failures

Written on Jul 05, 2022

I did two builds with the same two slide parts kits from Trybe. Had exactly the same issues. First-off, the guide rod is a complete waste of money - the plastic retaining cap barely holds on and snaps off easily. I broke one on the first rack; the other in just a few rounds. I can’t imagine who thought this would retain the recoil spring for more than 2 mags. It’s the cheapest part in the kit. Then, the extractor rod gets stuck. Why? Because the black plastic insert at the back that gets depressed and covered by the slide plate is way too long. I had to cut it down so the extractor would operate, otherwise the extractor rod is jammed forward, and the extractor is always pushed closed. The safety plunger also has a sharper bezel than factory glock parts. The result is constant catching and a very choppy slide action. The only positive is that the striker seems to work without much issue, but I really haven’t had the opportunity to run it through since I’ve had all of these other issues.
