So, I hastily bought the FLIR Scout II which was on sale for $1,750. I should have done more research because after I purchased it, I found the Pusar Quantum for exactly the same price but with TONS of better features.
- The thermal resolution (384x288 Microbolometer) is much higher than the SCOUT II 240 (240 × 180 VOx Microbolometer)
- The refresh rate on this device is 30hz (smooth/realtime) vs. the <9hz refresh rate on the FLIR 240 (choppy image)
- The pulsar uses standard rechargable AA batteries vs. the internal LI Ion battery on the FLIR. This has many tactical advantages of using AA for a variety of red dot scopes, flashlights and your thermal. You can also use solar chargers like goal zero to recharge the AA easily.
The only plus that the FLIR has over the pulsar is the insta-alert feature. However, this is hardly a necessity.
Do yourself a favor and buy this unit over the FLIR 240 or 320. If you have extra cash, you can buy the upgraded Pulsar Quantum which has longer range.
The Petzl hand ascender cost on average $20 more than this product, and the quality is about the same. Although Petzl is good, don't waste your money on just the name brand. ABC is not a no-name manufacturer either. I've owned several pieces of equipment from them and all have performed exceptionally.
