Great compact light!

Written on Jul 01, 2017

Long story short: Bought 2x XC1 because 1x had to be exchanged due to it having parasitic battery drain. Exchanged it because of Optics Planet has excellent customer service!
End: The XC1 is a great compact light!

Originally bought the XC1 because I didn't want the holster to be overly large when I was carrying my G19 with Surefire X300 appendix in the waistband. Found a smaller option: XC1. The lumens compared from the X300 to the XC1 is more than half, but sometimes more is not better. After I received the light and installed it to the on to the pistol, I turned it on to do a operations check. Less than 3 days later, even with the fresh factory provided lithium double A battery, the light would deplete the battery. Swapped out the battery to a new one, then next day, it would be dead. I didn't think a few operation checks from time to time would justify the battery dying so quickly. Got online and did some research. Found some forums that spoke about it the parasitic drain on the battery. Contacted Optic's Planets customers service via online chat and was able to send the faulty XC1 back and have it exchanged quickly.

The new XC1 came quickly, and was installed quickly. Factory provided lithium battery installed and operations checked again. Every few days I would continue operations check it, the light hasn't died or drained any batteries yet!

Subcompact light for subcompact carry!

Written on Mar 20, 2017

Did some research/looking online and I finally came to the conclusion of getting the Streamlight TLR6 for my wife's Shield. I was pretty happy that it could be mounted on my G26 also with the correct housing, but when I mounted it, my dominant index finger was just a little bit too short to reach the ambidextrous switch, no biggie. My non-firing hand could activate the light/laser combo while my other finger would be resting on the frame. I also carry a flashlight along with the pistols.

After switching out the housing to the provided other template for the Shield, I practiced several times the activation of the light/laser and it was pretty natural. After playing around if I wanted the light, or laser, or both, decided on both because possibility of my wife using it at night were more likely.

Installation itself was relativity easy with the provided allen wrenches. Just took a few minuets, being distracted with a newborn at the time...

The light itself isn't overwhelmingly bright (unlike other lights are), which is not a bad thing. Most likely the pistol would be drawn inside the house or in a dark area. Target identification is doable with the 100 lumens, the target will get illuminated within about 25 meters easily (after I went outside later that night and pointed it out in the backyard). The reason why I left the light to be activated with the combo of light and laser is that when drawn, the shooter can easily identified the threat, get started with the esca
