Recommended but with a caveat

Written on Mar 09, 2019

As the other reviews will attest, this is a well-made and solid hand guard. It is truly 'drop in' for a standard m4 carbine and I doubt most will need any type of delta ring tool to accomplish the install as it's installed one side at a time, so I don't find it to require any herculean strength to get the job done. It's a solid piece of equipment, well finished and obviously of quality, and it locks up solidly. It also is of a diameter on the smaller side, so it's not nearly as large as many quad rails etc.

My one complaint is that it really needs a small interlocking boss or set-screw arrangement, one per side, to lock the two halves together once installed. If you plan to install a vertical or angled fore grip, the problem I encountered is that under use and recoil, the bottom half slides back and forth very slightly as the vertical grip adds leverage. This is a disconcerting feeling. I do not encounter this issue on something like a Magpul moe drop-in, for example, because the two halves of that product lock together once in place.

Ultimately I returned it, but felt a bit badly as it definitely is very high quality. If you do not use any type of fore grip, I suspect you will be ultimately quite happy with this.

Well-made and affordable, straightforward A2 comp

Written on Feb 23, 2019

No need to wax poetic about this - it's a straightforward A2 comp that will work with 9mm and 1/2-36 threads. I'm essentially using it as a thread protector on a 8.3" BA barrel and just needed something stubby to protrude enough beyond the short Aero guard. I've also used some different setups with the same barrel and arm (blowback 9mm AR) and frankly I don't think there's enough gas for any of the various muzzle devices available to make any noticeable difference in recoil or bounce. This is a quality A2 with a proper finish and it's not covered by machining marks like other cheapies on the market.

Very substantial and solid stock

Written on Feb 09, 2019

Let me say up front that if you're after a lightweight stock, this is not for you. However, this piece is very solid and substantial and seems to be built like a brick... well, you know. The added mass also feels exceptional in regard to a great cheek weld and there is quite a bit of battery storage or storage for whatever you can fit in there, really. The storage seems to seal very well yet remains easy to open and access. Finally, it fits a mil spec tube very well without being overwhelmingly tight, but at the same time, no rattle or loose feel. A great product.

Great product with a couple of minor caveats...

Written on Sep 09, 2018

This is a great product and can be used in a multitude of ways to hide a fairly wide range of pistols. It does exactly what you would expect it to do. VERY thick, sturdy leather base and the stretchable/form-fitting 'holster' portion is very tight.

A couple of points worth noting: when you receive this and open the package, it will stink. Badly. It needs a good week or two to air out to do away with the smell, which I'm sure is attributable to the leather. After that, it's a-o-k. Also, the stretchable holster portion is very stiff initially and will take some time to loosen up a bit to really fit any given arm well.

Other than these few quirks, no complaints and serves the purpose perfectly. Seems exceptionally durable.

Excellent magazine, exactly as per the original.

Written on Feb 27, 2018

What more can I really say? These are identical to the magazines included with the PPS M2 and so therefore they function exactly the same. I should also add that if you want to cram an extra round into these (who wouldn't?) the MagGuts replacement spring/follower works EXACTLY as intended and will give one of these an extra round capacity. Regardless of whether you want to do this or not, these are excellent mags with perfect feed, no issues at all.

Flip a coin, buy this or the Eotech

Written on Dec 05, 2017

This is a really fantastic little red dot. I have one of these and I also have one of the Eotech w/ the transverse battery and the dot/65 Moa ring. Honestly, I would have to flip a coin in order to offer a preference. They are both spectacular and both tough as nails. I do not 'baby' my AR rifles and I've banged this Aimpoint around multiple times now. No, I'm not stationed overseas or anything serious, but I have been running all over the woods lately with this sight mounted on a little 300 10" barrel shorty, and all I can say is hot d**n, I truly love this thing. Furthermore, it works perfectly in conjunction with a set of Aero precision flip sights (HK pattern, I like the rounded front wings) although I generally just leave the front sight up all the time as the cowitness is perfect and the glass in this Aimpoint is absolutely, positively crystal clear. Bite the bullet, spend the money once and get yourself a red dot that you'll live with until you croak. I don't think this thing could be destroyed even if you try!

Very sturdy and solid product, does exactly as advertised.

Written on Jul 13, 2017

These are extremely solid and appear to be very well-made. The leather backer is easily a full 1/4" thick and the webbing (which actually retains the firearm) seems very tough, fairly stiff and is repetitively stitched for excellent attachment to the leather backing. These will easily support the weight of a fully loaded full size .45; have tried it out with a Walther PPQ45, M&P 45 2.0 and an older Ruger P345. I would add two more mounting screws in the middle of the long side for these larger arms but this is easy enough for the end user to accomplish, just make sure to use some washers since there are no grommets there.

My only real complaint is the stench! These are packaged in very durable plastic bags and when you open one up... stand back! I'm sure it's the leather tanning treatment. Make sure to let them air out a good week or so, otherwise the smell is going to give one away when sitting down to the table for dinner! (I'm exaggerating a bit, but they really do smell until aired-out.)

Good quality crush washer

Written on Jun 27, 2017

Well, there's really not much to say about a crush washer. I don't think I've ever come across one that was subpar in any way, although they do all seem to be a bit different. It's good to have a variety of them on hand so to ensure that timing issues don't become... well, timing issues. Any they're cheap!

Excellent laser with one caveat...

Written on Jun 15, 2017

This is a very well-made, compact laser with a high degree of visibility and easy operation. Furthermore, it has the benefit of working perfectly with the TacLoc holsters, which in reality is a definite selling point. I like almost everything about it and have no issues, save one small concern: the interchangeable mounting brackets (it comes with three sets to fit a wide variety of rails) are made of some type of plastic polymer. The laser housing seems to be aluminum, and the rail mounts lock into the housing very well into shallow dovetailed pockets with screw retainers. All good there. I simply feel that for the price and quality of this product, I personally would prefer the rail mounts to be aluminum as well; the plastic used seems very, very tough, and fairly rigid, but it does have a small degree of flex which bothers me. I'm sure they chose this material so as to avoid marring the firearm to which it's attached, but I'd still prefer a more immovable, rigid aluminum mount and put a scratch or two on the gun. OK, that's my bugaboo. Otherwise a really spectacular, super bright little laser. Easy to adjust with included tool.

Great idea and a great product.

Written on Jun 15, 2017

This is an excellent and well-shaped holster which odes exactly what it is intended to do in conjunction with one of the Viridian lasers. What a fantastic idea and offers a high level of confidence. I can't speak for the fit of all models but mine fits the M&P for which I purchased it like a glove.
