I have Norgon's on several lowers. It's the only ambi mag release I use, until now. The Cmmg isn't billet like the Norgon, but it's still really good quality. Dimensionally they are identical (I'm a machinist, so I'm anal about that shyte). It's either a casting or forging, but doesn't have the production markings to be a MIM part. The spring is maybe 5%-10% weaker, but it's imperceptible when in use. The serrations are defined without being too sharp, unlike cheaper clones which are hot garbage. It's actually darker black than the OG, for all the matchy matchy snobs. At 40% of the cost of the original, I don't think I'll be buying another Norgon unless the Cmmg has a catastrophic failure.
I had high hopes for this product; unfortunately, my expectations were exceedingly higher than the quality of the sight. There are deep machining marks at approximately 15° to the slot in the adjustment screw, almost like they thought about cutting a second slot and abruptly changed their minds. The holes in the ears of the base for said screw are not aligned, so the sight is canted in the stowed and deployed positions. The spring in the detent is crunchy. The misalignment of the sight and screw only adds to the detent's inadequacy. Lastly, the finish is not consistent and was scuffed in a couple of places.
I've been a machinist for 15 years, and I know poor quality work when I see it. I've seen govt jobs with better attention to detail.
On the plus side, it's small. So, if you've got limited rail space and have no regard for the quality of the things you put on your firearms, this sight would be perfect!
Quality of the material and meloniting were good, but the hole for the roll pin was off ≈10°. It made installation a SOB and took three roll pins to beat it into submission. Because the hole wasn't drilled absolutely perpendicular to the dogleg in the tube, it ended up looking wonky after I got it put together and caused issues with the carrier not wanting to go fully into battery. I'm buying one more to see if the first time was a fluke or if I need to look elsewhere for gas tubes. Kinda crazy if a barrel manufacturer can't get their gas tubes right, but we'll just have to see. I will update this review with my findings as soon as I get the new one.
I was shipped the curved trigger instead of the flat trigger which I had ordered. Even though I'm disappointed that I have to wait even longer to install the correct trigger into my rifle, the curved one appears to be mechanically solid. Just from my examination, I can say that it breaks like glass and the 2 stage pull weights are on point. I've got my fingers crossed that I receive the correct (flat) trigger this time, but I don't I suppose I'll settle for a full refund and the curved.
