Modern upgrade

Written on Oct 28, 2020

Absolutely the best stock for the money. Some small mods needed depending on action. Had to notch a little to make room for follower and ejector as well as bent bolt handle. Space for Timney safety and I drilled a small detent and filled with red for fire position. I took it a step further and glass bedded action as well.

Adjustability of LOP and cheek riser are great. Palm swell and strong front end for bipod. Lots of features and detachable mags to boot.

If you’re looking to enjoy your Mosin, get this stock.

A.G. X-wing rear bag. Good in theory, not in practice.

So I was using a homemade sand sock. I had made one out of a small freezer bag filled with air soft bbs and used the top half’s of black calf socks. This made it double layered. Been working for me for years, cheap to make and still working. It measures 7x4x1. However, I thought “I need a proper rear bag.”

I bought the W-wing rear bag based on the corner tabs working as ears. I liked that it had a QD attachment, would work well with my stock and would always be attached to my rifle like a monopod. Also with the strap I could use it as a front rest where my bipod wouldn’t work. It would be a multifunctional bag that I could keep attached to the rifle.

Well I never got around to taking the tag off. I practiced dry fire with it at home in prone, bench, kneeling, offhand, and barricade.

1st, the fill is to light. First squeeze it goes up, release it comes down. However, this is when it gets bad. Second squeeze doesn’t go as high as the first and second release goes lower than first. THEN, third squeeze doesn’t go as high as second.... I hope you get the point. The “wings” at the bottom start filling up and the fill just settles more and more.

2nd, it’s only 1/2” less wide than is tall, which serves no purpose if trying to use it on its side for that midrange use between tall and flat. And at that width it’s hard to get a good grip around it. It’s purpose as a rear bag is a fail.

3rd, as a front bag the strap did go over the bipod legs, but not very well. I’m using an Atlas s
