If you assemble this on a carbine or mid length gas tube system you will have to remove your handguard/rail to access the gas adjustment set screw. Really really. I thought I was seeing things at first and slapped the unit together - this block and a Spike's mid-length melonite coated tube, EZPZ - but when I put it on the gun I'd forgotten about the adjustable part of the block. Got the the range, ran a few rounds through a new upper I'd assembled and it shot just fine, tried adjusting the set screw, I'd forgotten my tools... got back home, took a look, I couldn't have adjusted the set screw if I'd wanted to, it's on the REAR (facing the rail/shooter), you can't reach it without removing the rail or cutting on the rail for a long-reach allen wrench to fit. Now, if you want to assemble your upper with about two inches of barrel and gas tube exposed so you can fit an allen key into the set screw, that would work, but I don't see any setups like these where I shoot or anywhere else on the internet Oh well. Live and learn.
but make SURE you've installed the screws BEFORE torquing down the barrel nut (supplied).
AFTER installing a barrel with Loctite Red (big believer in Fulton Armory's guidance here) with enough time to set up, I realized the screws weren't going to just "fall in to place". Sure, the backing plate is loose, but not so much that you can easily angle the screws in, so this marred - ever so slightly - the upper. But WTH, I'm not after any beauty prizes with the gun, just would like better/more complete directions than DD provided. Measure twice, cut (or install) once, I guess, I should have test fit everything first. Who know.
But once ON the gun, this is a very functional piece, lining up smoothly with the Spike's upper I chose for my build. This kit even came with three ladder type rail guards. It slipped right over a Seekins precision adjustable gas block, too, with more than enough clearance and the block's out front where you can adjust it without interference from the rail.
Not only would I buy one again, I did (with a coupon, I bought the first one on Father's day sale). Making a matching gun for my wife.
