Better, Cheaper Alternatives

Written on Dec 17, 2015

This fore grip feels nice, is solid, and mounts well to the rail and tightens up nice with a nut that is hand-tightenable. But it weighs 13.4 oz. with batteries, and compared to another $30 grip with a 450 Lumen lamp I have which weighs less and illuminates better, I wouldn't recommend this one. Also, the first one I ordered was in one of those welded tamperproof plastic packages, obviously factory new and never opened, but the lamp didn't work at all, and the clear lens was broken (it comes with a red lens threaded over the clear lens seen in the picture). I'm going to keep this one as a spare and to use where I'd normally use my foot-long, 23 oz. double-D battery Mag Lite.

Good Sling, But a Little Long For Me

Written on Dec 17, 2015

This sling has a quick disconnect between the clasp and the shoulder strap, which adds five inches to the distance between the strap and the rifle. I am 5'10" and skinny, and with the strap adjusted to its smallest size, the barrel of my FNH SCAR 17 (which measures about 28" between the muzzle and rear sling attachment) winds up between my knee and ankle. So I have to walk with my hand on the rifle's grip and off to my right side so it doesn't bang against my knees when I walk. This sling wouldn't work for me if I couldn't have one hand on the rifle at all times. It's not a problem for me, but it might be for you. Without that quick disconnect apparatus, it would probably be perfect.
