Not what I ordered.

Written on Oct 17, 2024

Received my order today. Received 500 FMJ, .451 bullets in a factory sealed box. The box label is the same as indicated in the photo on the website. It indicates the bullets are jacketed hollow point. They are not JHP. The bullets are clean, no notable deformities and should perform great. That being said, I had ordered the hollow point, .451 dia, 230 gr. bullets that were on special. There is not a hollow point among them. They are all FMJ, hardball bullets. The base is exposed lead. They were shipped in a Winchester, factory sealed box as pictured on the website and that box was in a standard OP shipping box. I will be keeping them as the pricing and the bullets are still a deal and I was buying them for range ammo anyway. for my use they will probably perform better than the JHP. The hollow point feature wasn't important for my intended use.

When in doubt use this one!

The Speer .458 cal., 400 Gr Soft Point is not a "bullet of the week." It's a bullet that has been around long enough that most shooters that enjoy the attributes of the .45-70 have heard of it and a great number have used it. It's not a "trick" bullet made up of some exotic materials, nor does it have a new shape or high BC. It's a "Thumper" of game when loaded to the upper ranges of the .45-70. That's true at both ends of the rifle. That would be 1850 fps and up. From 1400 fps to the 1800 fps range, it's usually quite manageable in normal rifles in the 7 - 8 lb range. As in most cases with above moderate to heavy recoil, the shape of the stock greatly affects how the shooter perceives the "kick." In a Ruger No 1, its not bad at 1850 fps. In a Traditional Hunter with it's thin, curved butt plate, you don't enjoy the "Thump" at that speed. Recoil aside, the bullet has proven to be very accurate for me producing three shot groups of 1 1/2" or better at 100 yds. using good scopes. It's a big bullet, moving at moderate velocity, from a .45-70 or other cartridges. It has a reasonable trajectory out to 150, maybe 200 yds. if you are driving it fast enough. It will take anything you may encounter in North America assuming proper bullet placement. (Yes, that's true of almost every hunting cartridge.) There is some debate on whether it's suitable for the really large bears as this bullet's core is soft and may not achieve the penetration desired on something that might

It doesn't fit. Sent it back.

All references are concerning a Sig Sauer P226 SSE Stainless Elite and yes, it has the totally unnecessary rail.
After reading the prior reviews of this set of grip panels for a Sig Sauer P226, several of which said the set did not fit their firearm without modifications, I decided to take the leap and order a set. It appeared from the photos and the description that they were exactly what I wanted to replace my pristine originals. Well, long story short, they don't fit. Yes, I could have used a file and some work and made them work (maybe) but why should I? I didn't order them to perform plastic surgery on. I returned them to OP. As far as the panels themselves, they appear well made. The checkering on the back mates up perfectly as if they were checkered at the same time. The insides of the panels have a lot of different levels of the material present. Some extends above the flush fitting portion of each panel. The right panel needs material removed from the very top. It's not much, only a few thousands along the entire top. The material won't let the panel fit flush as received. That would be the easy part of the fitting job. The left panel is more intricate. It has several areas that would require more material removal. There is a tab extending above flush about 1/16 inch that will have to be cut back. It's about 3/16 inch per side and square. The portion of the grip that is under the slide release may need to be cut down to allow the release to move free
