WPA3 and WPA2/WPA3 MIx Mode Support
Written on Jul 13, 2020
I initially had issues connecting the safe to “my WiFi” network but eventually I identified the issue and a solution.
Background:
I have a newer WiFi 6 mesh network with 2 nodes that were previously running WPA2/WPA3 Mix Mode. I have 2 IoT hubs and 36+ devices that include thermostats, smoke detectors, lightbulbs, smart tv and iPhones, iPads and both Mac and Windows laptops. All of these devices connected to the network w/o issues. I was therefore surprised and confused why I could not connect the safe easily. I tried both WPS and using the app. If you have any issues make sure to use the apps troubleshooting mode as it confirms each steps. What is not very clear is that the last step pairing, is when the safe attempts to connect to the network. This final step was failing for me.
Resolution:
Not being able to contact Vaultek by phone was a bit frustrating but their email customer support is excellent!
In my particular case, I reconfigured the 2.4GHz band to use WPA2 Personal, which solved the issues and is an acceptable solution, though I am hoping for a future firmware update but we’ll see.
Some additional information about my network configuration that works and that you can eliminate from troubleshooting steps.
1. A single SSID for both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands
2. Client Steering and Node Steering (802.11k and 802.11v) turned on
3. The documentation states the safe may not work with “range entendres” but I did not have problems with my 2 node mesh network
